  1. What kind of music was at Yokohama? Live band? My gig was a hoot. 2 rooms next to each other on the 5th floor. A couple of guys I know - DJ and singer were doing the soul/disco/countdown show in one room and I was doing the quiet 'jazz bar' thing in the other room for those who wanted to chill, not party. I'll try and give more notice next time there's something that might be remotely interesting.
  2. I'll be playing at the Intercontinental Hotel, hamamatsucho, I think it's some kind of jazz lounge or something. Won't know till I get there. If you're in the area pop in. Wherever you are have a good one.
  3. Oh very cool, I didn't realise it was that close to Niseko. Maybe I can hook up with some SJ people over the other side of Yotei-san who'd like to have a few runs with sunrise. That could be very fun indeed. Or I'll just go on my own... that'll be fun also. I skied Higashiyama before but not Hirafu. But I would imagine that wrist guards would get in the way of fluid pole placement. I don't think I'd want to wear them. Were you wearing them yourself? Any other skiers wear them? Markie, your post isn't frivilous it's right on topic. I'm really glad to hear how easy it is to get to Niseko
  4. oops, sorry forgot about Carl's email. I don't want to post it on a public board so if you drop me an email via my website (or give me your email address here) I'll send it on to you. Does that private message thing on this board work? I tried sending a message on it once but I have no idea where to go to get replies.
  5. Quote: Originally posted by Markie: my trip to France is just skiing, that's all Just skiing? What do you mean just skiing? And what do you mean by that's all? Skiing is never just skiing..... Have fun in Froggieland..... it sounds wonderfully romantic.
  6. If you guys hook up in Japan let me know, I'll come and hang too (depends on the location). Markie, thanks for all your info - I'm sure I can tolerate the music if it's mainly on the lifts, maybe I'll just wear earplugs on the lifts if I find it's killing me (hee hee). I'm sure I'll find my way around the slopes since I'll have a lot of time to explore. I'm going to be avidly following Harold Harb and Lito Tejada-Flores' skiing instruction so I'll have a lot to keep me going on my own without need of an instructor (unless it's someone teaching the same stuff that they teach). 7. True, though check these out. http://mdn.mainichi.co.jp/weather/japanweather/tokyo.html http://www.tbs.co.jp/weather/te_tomorrow_c.html Hard to imagine it right now with the sun shining and such a lovely day today.... Sometimes there are quite different casts from different places. Mainichi's usually pretty accurate, but then so are the SJ maps....
  8. Sounds like you had a great time Markie. I look forward to getting there soon. Now for the all important question - was there music on the slopes?
  9. My parents have some friends in Switzerland and they told me on the phone today that (damn, which place was it? Maybe Lucerne? argh, can't remember) they had a fantastic early start, but then the snow melted and instead of -5 degrees it's 10 degrees. Wherever the hell it is, it's unusually warm and with an unusual lack of snow..... hope you're not going there... hopefully it'll be better in other areas.
  10. But deebee, but how do we know that's really you? Zwelgen - nice to talk to another woman. I'm not surprised that you would pick up my gender in my writing yourself..... Actually, Sunrise is short for Sunrise Music (my so-called business name). I guess the shortened version could easily be seen as feminine - yeh, probably no man would use that name. But - how could anyone have thought deebee was a woman? He never struck me as a woman. Okay, folks - hands up here - who thought deebee was a woman? Please reply. Deebee, your name change has devasted me. Just when I
  11. Hi markie, Glad you hooked up with Carl. So - how's the snow conditions out there? Bet you're having a great time. PS - yes, it was Jackie Cheung (never knew how to spell all that). THanks for the interesting background. Also, www.digitalcutuplounge.com
  12. Latest snow report: morning email from Carl: "Lots of new snow last night and this morning" I don't know why the resort update isn't showing all this. I suspect the Rusutsu people are a little slow. (this would be out of SJ's juristiction - oops, spelling?). Can't confirm if that means it's still blizzard or has calmed down.... How long will you be there for Markie? Looks like you're getting a good dump before you arrive. Okay, you win, being female means I'm no longer immune from Markie - however, be warned, a little makeup goes a long way into enhancing one's app
  13. Dare I say it - consider getting a Mac..... (okay, I'm a little biased.....) PS - I'll try and get a shot like yours this season Fattwins, though I suspect all I'll have to show will be a some short turns and then lots of face plants.... still - if I get hold of a pair of fat skis, who knows, I might just make it down the hill without falling.....
  14. It's allright, I was only kidding about using photoshop... I didn't think anyone would take me seriously, the humour of the moment had taken hold of me.... If you want the real truth it's a fantastic shot and I'd love to be good enough to ski in stuff like that as well as you do (maybe this year???). Sorry, hope you didn't take offence.
  15. Fruity? Well it's certainly very rich, but yes, we call it dry (or at least I do). Maybe it's because of the dead-pan straight faced delivery.... I was in England in October working on a project there and the engineer had that same humour. Continually cracked me up! He was hilarious to work with. I find it refreshing, and I'm not usually in contact with it enough. Most of the foreigners I deal with here are North American/Canadian, and a few Aussies thrown in to boot.... American humour - it can be very very funny, but it's just not the same.... (no offence to any Americans)
  16. Markie, there are other options - take a leaf out of the east asian (like India) and middle east countries, or even dress like a hippie - in a sarong (though maybe not so good for skiing in).
  17. Quote: Originally posted by enderzero: Let me get this straight... sunrise is a woman... and DEEBEE IS A MAN?????????? No-one knows for sure, you just have to take our word for it.... Actually deebee's never stated his gender, but I always thought he was a man. By the way, I caught up on the boot thread. Would you consider boots vegetarian food? Deebee, of course you know if you want him to eat boot you're gonna have to provide video evidence. Markie - here's the latest snow update (finally I'm getting on topic again) - sorry, forgot to add it in the previous post to you: I
  18. Quote: Originally posted by Ocean11: sunrise, I had a look at your website and some of your performing outfits. I think I like the white dress best. Personally I often go to work in my pajamas, which aren't nearly so stylish. Ocean you crack me up! When are you going to write a book with that great dry English sense of humour of yours? Yeh, I know, you're probably going to tell me that you're not trying to be funny... I wish I could wear pyjamas to work, but they mightn't let me into the venue with my slippers on. That's the nice thing about being a writer - you can wear anything t
  19. Quote: Originally posted by Markie: Never? Even when we get really intimate?[/QB] Aha, you're trying to test me, but with a signature like yours I'm not in the least worried.... (though I'd say 'if' is more correct English than 'when'). Actually, I'm starting to get suspicious that your signature is a red herring and that you're actually secretly in love with Ocean, even though he only wants to be friends. I saw those tears...
  20. He's not - he's standing still pretending to be moving. He's just touched it up in photoshop. Added a little blur and whited out his legs...
  21. Quote: Originally posted by Ocean11: Anyway ... to get back to my previous point, sunrise, you could start calling yourself 'Performer and Resort Music Consultant' or something, and try ever so nicely to raise the issue of what exactly your employers think they're doing playing canned music in the great outdoors. It might even work. (I agree with you that it would also be great if this site could have some impact in giving resorts a better idea of what at least one segment of their customers would really like.) Hey, Ocean, I like that title, it's got a real official sounding ring to it. Ma
  22. Quote: Originally posted by Markie: Actually, I know it shouldn't make a difference but I know it does affect me psychologically. When socializing with guys its easy to joke around and just be friendly. But I tend to be more inhibitive when meeting girls. I have to try to be polite but not too friendly otherwise they might think I'm coming on to them. And I have to be careful with my jokes because most of my repetoire are of the vulgar genre and I don't want anyone to be offended. I can see your point - and it goes both ways - I can have the same problem the other way round. But don't
  23. If you're still wanting tips, try the Breakthrough on Skis II powder skiing video and/or book by LitoTejade-Flores (don't know if you can get the video in PAL, but if you have a laptop with a DVD player it's also out on DVD). Breakthrough On Skis Or try Harold Harb's book on powder skiing. harbskisystems , though Lito's stuff might be easier to follow, a little less technical. Lito's videos are great. There's probably other great stuff out there too. Check out the reviews on amazon.com.
