Something strange going on in a field in Yuzawa today...
mina2 replied to muikabochi's topic in General off-topic discussions
How strange! Makes for some interesting images though for sure. -

Niseko? -
Nothing huge. Houdaigi is a decent place and I have often found really good snow there. Not busy either. Other places Okutone Norn But they are smallish places, nothing major at all. Little bit further afield from Numata and you have the places from Numata, like Kawaba, Oze White World.... they are on a bigger scale.

Oze Iwakura in Gunma
mina2 replied to Captain-Boo's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Here's a map, not quite from the IC but thereabouts. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/route-finder/japan-resort-directions-large.php?addresses=NumataANDWhite%20World%20Oze%20Iwakura(resort%3D47)&avoidHighways=false&avoidTolls=false&travelMode=DRIVING About 35km. That road is one of those that can take longer or shorter depending on the weather conditions and if you get stuck behind some trucks. But usually I would hope to get there in about 45-50 minutes. Allow an hour I'd say. -

Now that to me looks very much like the back area of White World Oze Iwakura here in Gunma, looking west towards Minakami. Am I right? -

Rosemary's Baby. -
Can't believe they do that. Are the prices as they were a year ago as well or cheaper?

Oze Iwakura in Gunma
mina2 replied to Captain-Boo's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Hi Captain-Boo Yes unfortunately that back area was closed this year, official reason being to save electricity. It's still a decent sized place though, I like it there though I didn't make it this year. I hope next year they will re-open it. -
The general 'Japan earthquake' topic
mina2 replied to big-will's topic in General off-topic discussions
Don't have the one turned on on my phone. But those bring-bring warnings of big ones that come up on tv like above sure as heck get the heart racing fast. First thing 'is it near me, is it near me'. That dude on NHK sure kept his cool. I suppose they must have training for that. -

Do they get pretty wild winds up there MO? Just noticed the hooded quad and wondering if that might be a reason. Or are (were!) they just rather extravagent. -
Old skis
mina2 replied to muikabochi's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Wow there's some old stuff there. Perhaps off to a museum? Seriously, how can some places still rent out stuff like this? -
The Mt Akagi region of Gunma - 15th April 2012
mina2 replied to muikabochi's topic in General off-topic discussions
You guys really are close hey, it's only the big long tunnel that seperates us. I asked my friends about the temple. Apparently it is very beautiful in autumn as well. -
The Mt Akagi region of Gunma - 15th April 2012
mina2 replied to muikabochi's topic in General off-topic discussions
Superb! I know Akagi but not that other temple... must get there looks really good. I can't really compare with other areas but in spring and summer there are many hazy days. Autumn and winter are the best chances of really clear conditions. -
It's a big initial choice isn't it, the cameras and lenses cost a fair bit of cash so once you go with one.....

Suggestion for next years trip
mina2 replied to Raz's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Not quite in Minakami but close. Would like to actually BE in Minakami, but close enough. Still gets hot in summer, though obviously nothing like out on the plains.
