  2. the japanese courses i took in college were excellent... you need a sensei that is constantly drilling you...not just reading drills from a book, but creating impromptu scenarios where you have to think up sentences yourself, and not just memorize patterns (which suprisingly can get you pretty far in japanese)...as with any language, practice with native speakers is the best way to go about it...but you also need to spend the grunge time memorizing words to build vocab... I think it is hard to find stricht japanese teachers (if they are native...) because it just is not in their natu
  3. Nat... are you serious about needing invitations to go to these bars??? This is madness I say... what am I to do.... how do I get invitation cards?? only 1 more day.... danz
  4. I want to hang with some hooligans... haven't seen too many sports bars, so where do you guys recommend in tokyo?? or do all of you have phat 50" TV's with skyTV satellite coverage and super-duper 10.1 in-your-face surround-sound set-ups?? help me please... danz
  5. i am learning japanese... i speak english and hebrew fluently and studied spanish in high school... japanese is hands down the hardest language I have encountered...but i hear german and chinese are right up there as well danz

  9. belle, my dear... the problem is obvious...why are you limiting yourself to only boarder bloakes... seems to me the frustrated females on this board are all boarders...don't see any skiers complaining...because we are much more receptive... how 'bout looking for some skier studs, and i am sure your luck will change.. danz (ocean11, your turn...)
  10. I don't think there is an international standard... I think europe just have piste and off-piste markers...and I know a black diamond (expert) in Vermont is not the same as one in Colorado... and besides, most expert trails in japan are closed because of "avalanche danger" or "unmarked obstacles", or , well, we've been over all that before.... danz
  11. actually grungy-gonads... I think the gaijin in the rice-field might be really happy to see another foriegner... at least i would... in a crowd of japanese, i've experienced 4 kinds of gaijin... the territorial ones that have been talked about, chill laid back cool gaijin that I wouldn't mind havin a beer with any where in the world, gaijin that are having a good time that they don't even notice the other gaijin, and then, the last, the one that annoys me, are the gaijin that feel they HAVE to talk to all the other gaijin...seems like a security blanket to me...its really easy t
  12. NoFakie... I think you need to listen to some more music...jimi would definetly still be playing his guitarr if he were around today... bands like Medeski,Martin&Wood, John Scofield, Pat Metheney Group, Charlie Hunter, and on and on are pushing the limits of music...with "standard" instruments at the core...have a listen music is alive and kickin! danz
  13. why is it so hard to rent DVD's here then?? I don't have a tsutaya near-bye, and my local rental shop has like 10 dvd's, with maybe 2-3 "new" releases...renting "gone with the wind" is not to high on my list now... my wallet can't handle buying movies...i just want to rent the occasional flick...but dvd's haven't seem to have caught on here... danz
  14. i've used the gaijin card 3 times for traffic related incidents...and each time worked like a charm... and yes, I am always acting...and given the level of acting on japanese dramas/movies, I think I should be up for an emmy! (or is it oscar, or grammy...i always mix them up)... danz
  15. oh this is an easy one... What is the only city in japan that has the honorable distinction of being nicknamed "Gakuen-Toshi: Science City"?? Tsukuba You know you are in for a good time if you live in science city... How many cities in Japan have a 'Quasi-National Park'?? Tsukuba does...Quasi parks are the best kind, you know... How many cities are at the foot of a mountain as intimidating as it is beautiful as Tsukuba-san? only 1 (unless you count tsuchiura), TSUKUBA! Tsukuba is the perfect blend of state of the art research facilities with your old-fashioned rice
  16. so have y'all filled out your questionere?? one thing I suggested in it was to set up a Ride Board/Forum... if you need a ride to the mtn, or are looking for passengers, use the Ride Board... sometimes posting in here, things can get burried under a lot of cheese, if you know what i mean... so I wanna know if you guys would use it if it was available...I would! curious danz
  17. there's a festival up by shiobara onsen (near hunter mtn.) at the end of may... i don't know if its an all out trance deal, but i know a lot of electronica and ambient/space stuff will be there...a us band called sound tribe sector 9 is also playing... i think its called Lunar Picnic or something...sounds cool danz
  18. hey... I got an international driving license... does that change things?? also, I talked to a friend who had a friend who got busted...he told the cops he was going to hire a lawyer to fight the ticket, which prompted them to drop it...menrokusai... but i'm sticking to my plan...wait it out...i'm only hear 'till march... danz
  19. nothing's come of it yet... I don't think I ever got an "official" ticket/summons, just kind of a request to go to the station and deal with it there... so, I haven't done anything, and they haven't contacted me since... sounds good to me! danz
  20. so I at my neiborhood watering hole the other day when an interesting conversation brewed...and I need your help to settle a bet.... apparently, Japanese believe that if you do not have proper, straight teeth, you can not exert your full chikara potential in sports...so japanese atheletes, and those aspiring to reach the next level in their sport of choice, make an effort to get good dental work?? sure...Itiro has nice teeth, but I don't think I have ever heard anything more rediculous in my life...is this only a japanese thing, or have some of you other world citizens heard anything
  21. cheeseman... I don't mean to be rude, but your shtick is getting old...and moldy... danz
  22. I think I'm alone in here, but Jambands Rule... String Cheese Incident is a fine example and will be at Fuji Rock this year...hey cheeseman, you should check them out.... also, a healthy dose of funk is good for the soul...Bring on the P-FUNK blues, rock, ambient, deep house, and jazz also make me happy! peace danz
