  1. Unless you are planning on changing career or company, don't sleep with any of the following: a) Workmates The Boss c) Any of the bosses friends d) Any of the bosses relatives e) Anyone who fits more than one of the above categories. Having said that, when I was a teacher at a business college (read, most students between 20 and 30), I ended up seeing 1 student for a couple of months, then ended up in a relationship with one for 3 years (only the first 6 weeks were while she was at college).
  2. My boots are sized so that, in the morning, after a night in bed and a hot shower, my toes just touch the ends. After about 2-3 runs I have to relace my boots as my feet shrink a little as they lose all the extra heat. then all is fine. Also be aware that you may need to have the boots modified by a boot fitter to suit small irregularities in your feet. The vein in my left foot runs over the large bone and gets compressed, cutting off blood supply and causing pain and cramping in the rest of the foot, so I have a load of packing around the rest of that area to take the pressure of t
  3. deebee, most known brands are OK for boots, so it is a lot of personal preference and what best fits your foot. Every foot is a different shape, so you need to try many boots to get one that is the same shape as your foot. Once you have one that is the right width, curve, length, then you can start to get it set up for your feet. Remember that if you are going to get a good fit, that your toes should just touch the ends when you stand upright, and don't forget to trim your toenails regularly.
  4. I rate myself as a fair boarder. Faster and more competant than a beginner, but slower and more unco than long term users. Able to avoid stacking into others on the slopes. Land about 1 in 4 jumps at the moment, but aim to get that conquered next season. Shakey fakie top to bottom on blue runs, and venturing onto blacks when they are quiet.
  5. Have a cross German Shepherd/Basenji called Al now. Till recently also had cat called Kimba (RIP wherever you went). Always had pets and cannot think of living without one.
  6. I have heard people say that height is no contributing factore when purchasing a board, but I think that extra height (hence usually higher CoG) would give greater leverage.
  7. As suggested, hire your gear for the first time for 2 reasons. 1) If you suck, you haven't spent too much money 2) If you get it really quickly, you can try a few different boards and see what type you like Buy ski clothes, I wear ski pants, ski jacket, ski gloves and add wrist guards to the ensemble. You can't really tell the difference unless you want to look like a baggy pants'd homeboy. You'll find that the major transition from surf to snow is which foot you weight. I still put too much weight on my back foot, much to the detriment of my heel side turns. As far as nat
  8. Well, one objective that I forgot to put down, but that I have done, is to do an easy blue run top to bottom going fakie. Did it a couple of times yesterday, and am now well pleased with myself

I have dark auburn hair, though it has bee as light as blonde (at birth) and strawberry blonde (when I was a surfie) andI have a fascination with all red hair from strawberry blonde to dark red/auburn.
  11. Nice area. Rural or urban? Stayed a couple of days in Bath, then drove through Bristol (took some great photos of the Avon at low tide) on the way home.
  12. I used to work for a computer manufacturer/reseller, and we preferred Toshiba notebooks/laptops. Not the fastest or coming with the most gizmo's, but good value for money and robust. Sold a whole heap to mining companies for the geologists to use.
  13. rach, what part of the UK are you from, or did you go to?
  14. Come to AU for some spring skiing Will gladly show you round Falls Creek. Just think,... no J-pop to listen to, just the sound of your edge.... bliss
  15. Start getting some jumps on a more regualr basis. Will be hitting the 1/2 pipe at Falls Creek in September (the chef at the lodge has threatened to drag meo out there), so I hope to be getting some air in the pipe and also get some tabletops nailed.
  16. Depends on all sorts of stuff. My father neesd to shave twice a day if he is going out at night, where-as I only shave every second day. If I shave the goatee off, you can see a shape in about 3 days, but to get it to the length in the photo is about 4 weeks work.
  17. Recently went for a long weekend with a large group of friends (about 5 boarders and 25 skiers). No problems at all. The skiers are aware of boarder issues and the boarders are aware of skiers issues. We work around those and have a great time.
  18. agreed mort, gwen is a goddess. Had a look at the Kano sisters. I'd lay $50 on the table and say that they have had some "magic" applied to their frontal elevation.

When it was done there was another house on the back yard and it wasn't theirs!!!!! Nope, no resectioning if it means the same as the above! OK, now you've confused me. Car to explain what this is about. Is it like squatting in an unused house??
  20. Oh, I forgot to mention all my ailments Most of you have worked out that I have bad ankles and knees, tho' not through snow related causes. My left arm is currently one long bruise from the elbow to the wrist from my wrist guard protecting my wrist and transferring the stress of a big stack into my forearm. Both shoulders hurt, the right as an aggrevation of an injury from a car accident a couple of years back, and my left shoudler from slamming into a mountain when something under the snow jagged the base sheet of my board. Still it's all good, and the pain will fade away.

I think you have found the only good cure for ongoing pain - exercise My mother used to have Rheumatiod Arthritis, and she found that if whe walked every day, and kept active, the pain was managable, but if she stopped for a few days it became worse.
  22. Ocean, I now have orthotics (at about 10-150 under each foot to lift teh inside edge up. This stops a lot of the problem. The muscles around my knees hold them upright naturally. There is only a problem when you apply sideways or rotational forces to them. I used to play volleyball (social C grade) and would end up limping for a day or two afterwards because of all the spins, twists and awkward landings that you tend to do in that game.
  23. Quote: Originally posted by mogski: I have heard of loose people but loose ligaments!! OUCH! Ahhh, but that is another problem, those ligaments don't hurt at all. Instead, I end with what can basically be described as sprained knees. The whole knee, but especially the inside lower part, ends up packed full of fluid in the bodies vain attempt to stabilise the joint. Now THAT is painful.
