  1. And score yourself? LOL Togue.... Have had so many troubles as you can't count?
  2. Oh.. even for a Danish it's not easy to get English humor while you share some cultural background?
  3. Hum.... perhaps she is well trained for it. I think I sometimes still need to convert English into Japanese to understand. My private English teacher says while I need to do that, my English is just at the level not at the native speaker level.
  4. Hum...... Mine are expensive compared with you all. One is 54,000 jp yen / year Another is 100,000 jp yen /year Paying too much?? Age ristriction is over 30 though. No limit payable if the driver killed anyone.
  5. Well, maybe this is a silly question but if I could ask,is there any way to understand English humor? When I meet English humore it's like 'What is the point?' which I don't like. Because everyone around laugh at it and only I don't. Probably because I am a Japanese, can not comprehend the detail of the language, between the lines and sophisticated sense One day one of my kiwi buddy asked me ' Hey gamera, what if a turtle lost his shell, is he naked or homeless? ' LOL I do get this kind of things but usually not easy for me to get some.
  6. Yeah.. Thunderpants exactly way off from the topic subject. We can't see sun night here in Japan that's why I visited there
  7. Hi Thunderpants. It was in 1982 when I visited there. Please don't say you were not born in yet! Why? - you know everyone wants to visit somewhere else where they have different culture from their own. It's always new and interesting. Perhaps you just don't notice there's a lot of attractive things around in your country. Funny thing was Denmark and Sweden had similar coins, Krone for Denmark and Krona for Sweden? Hard to judge which was which when I needed to pay some for public toilets. I always asked like "Excuse me sir, which is your currency?" in public toilets lol...
  8. Hi Thunderpants Hum.. less freedom and holidays in Japan and more freedom but less money, wave and snow in Denmark.......Hard choice. When I got on a ferry from Helsingor(Denmark) to Helsingberg(Sweden), I saw big waves in the sea, is it not usual? Do you mean a lot more " should not do" and "have to do" than expected in Japan? Exactly sometimes it feels tight to live on in this country though. Uhm... no comment for sunrise vs guest34, a lot unknown words for me lol...
  9. Quote: Originally posted by Dear Britain: haha. I have a Japanese friend that tried really hard to teach me an old Japanese kindergarten song from some 20 years ago about a policeman and his dog. The chorus goes something like "wan-wan wan wan, wan-wan wan wan...." (ie, a 'dog' noise). It was a great tune, I used to march around singing it. Zannen! A policedog and a kid cat that got lost. But see, it worked, right? You still remember it. Maigo no maigo no koneko chan Anata no ouchi wa doko desuka? Ouchi o kiite mo wakaranai Namae o kiite mo wakaranai Nyan nyan nya nyan
  10. Hi I=I=I=I=I The answer is Egg. When I worked for a sushi restaurant when I was a uni student, the master told me that the best intro would be egg. He surely told me the reason why but I can't remember it at the moment. I've learned that maguro ( tuna ), salmon etc are okay for most people but sea urchin, salmon coe, sea beam etc are not always okay. Some really don't like them. If he is from somewhere in a sea food culture, maybe you don't worry about it too much. Have fun!
  11. Dear Britain, It seems that I got a judgment, entire snow another roof dropped down, so I need to extra work today as well, maybe it would take 3-4 hours with no rest Haha! you throw snowballs at me? Gosh I would throw many more back at you then. I don't understand what you say below. Can you say it in another way of saying? ************************************** How many times a week is it safe to tell yourself to shut up and think of the money? Even a hooker gets a thrill every now and then **************************************
  12. Some more points I think important are **Practice same phrases again and again** And please note some points below. #1 Each and every Japanese word doesn't always have a stress in it. #2 if you put a stress in mistake, the meanings changes as 'desert' and 'dessert' have a stress in different syllable. #3 Pronounce vowels clearly. If it's a single vowel, we have only 5 - a, e, i, o, u. English has a lot more vowels. Good luck
  13. Actually I sang English songs at home not in a karaoke box coz karaoke boxes were not available at that time. I bought some records (not CD!! lol )and sang some songs of Olivia Newton John, Jon Denver, Glen Campbell and mostly ABBA after my sinior high school days. So my English may sound like some Swedish accent
  14. Oh, HoRoTD I could not read between the lines. Muikabochi, if "Nihongo de shabette kudasai" does not work, try some violent way " Nihongo de shabere iutoru yaro!" lol... This may be hard if you don't speak Kansai dialect. You have to take the risk when you try this way because this is really an agressive and impolite way As tsondaboy says, practice makes it better. For example if you try karaoke to sing some Japanese songs often, it would improve your pronounciation because that is how I tried to practice English when I was a high school student. -Make sure, it was almost 30 years
  15. Muikabochi, you can tell him "Nihongo de shabette kudasai" As far as a language is not his/her mother tongue, s/he has some disadvantage, so let's be patient.
  16. Hi Dear Britain Would you like to help me remove snow like a slave for free if you were so jealous? lol...... The snow on the roof of my house dropped today as I supposed yesterday. It was like 1 meter thick ( should I say tall? ) and all snow could not drop down - so much snow. So I needed to remove it carefully not to get the snow on the roof at my head. It took 4 hours with a snowblower without any rest! Still interested, Dear Britain???
  17. Yeah, have never found any Men's day yet. I guess we can't expect too much coz Lady's day helps their business because a lot men also go there to try making friends with women but they think Men's day doesn't work that good? How poor we men are!!
  18. I think we got a lot more than 60 cms in this couple of days. I was so busy to remove snow in my place entire day yesterday and today. But still a lot snow left on the roof so I guess probably I will be busy tomorrow to remove snow when it drops down from the roof. I made my snowblower work three times yesterday and twice today to clean whole garden and parking. Good exercise for a chubby ojisan lol.....
  19. Shibuya-ku city office provides a good description in English. http://www.city.shibuya.tokyo.jp/eng/living/earthquakes.html
  20. Hi Fattwins. I am working at my inn of my own in Hakuba at the bottom of Goryu/47. I am originally from Osaka, so I know how city life goes though How about you, fattwins? Where are you located? Hummm me jane, your eigo is kinda mutsukashi to me lol..... If I could describe your sentences in another way, is that like followings? *Your friends who supposed to go to somewhere with you on the Jan 5th cancelled to go at the previous night coz she hurt her back and the takkyubin company lost her boards?* sorry if it's offensive, I know it would hurt your pride when a non-na
  21. Hi Sanno Maybe depends on where you are, some feel it too much , some feel it just right and some other feel it bilzzard. I don't think it was too much but maybe for those who live in warm places probably it looked too much? No, not that much as you need to close the lift operations. 7-11, coming here to provide some konbini store stuff?
  22. dmags29, I agree with quattro. If your feet were bigger than 30cm (12 inches), absolutely difficult to find ones for you in Japan. Sometimes I need to call some rental shops which might have some bigger ones for my overnight staying guests. And additional, I've learned that Japanese feet forms are different from Westerners' which may be another problem - even size does fit, form might not fit. My convert chart says if it's 30cms on metric, it would be U.S shoes size 9 for men, 11 for women. I am not completely sure because we are always on metric to measure stuff. So I recommend you
  23. Hi happyhappy. Perhaps it could be the case. But I guess perhaps Spock's Brain really wanted to come here this weekends. Maybe s/he should choose right buddies to go with her/him next time.
  24. Hi Spock's brain. I live in Hakuba, exactly we had bunch of snowfalls in this several days. But I think it's a good news for everyone love snow?? Or perhaps they misunderstood that you suggested to come here on foot?
