Hi folks. The Forums back online again. I just thought it was a good opportunity to say a few words about the few times in the last few weeks when we have had to turn the Forums off. For differing reasons actually, but each time we thought it necessary to do so in order to protect the Forums and prevent possible worse things happening. Without going into technical details the first time was due to us moving server which is always not easy especially for something this size. We did not plan to do that mid-season, but circumstance informed us it was the best thing to do. Yesterday a di

Missing Person in Niseko
SnowJapan replied to windy_benny's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Some people - not messages remaining here I might add - seem to see this worrying story as an excuse/opportunity to spam post links to their websites (of no value to the subject at hand) and get some publicity through that. It's not, and it's extremely annoying. We will be showing zero tolerance with this. Rather than angling for some exposure and personal gain, why not put your efforts into trying to help with all this? That would seem to be the decent thing to do. Back to topic - wishing you all the very best with finding him soon. -

Actually we are at the moment looking into a few possible ways to move things forward, though that will be for 'the future' rather than in the next few weeks. Looking at the photos uploaded by, say, from memory, MikePow and muikabochi, I'd say that some pretty sharp high quality photos can easily be managed within the limit. I have just taken a quick look at the photos in their folders - I'd guess that most of those came in at an average of just 200KB as well, they are almost all well within the 500KB. Anyway, time to log off. Thanks! -

Well let us increase that limit then shall we. Give me a bit of time and I'll have it sorted. Easy, hey. I'm not sure how a change from 500KB to 1MB would actually change much since you would have to make them smaller anyway.... and with that software (and other software) you can literally batch process a hundred photos within a couple of minutes. As others have shown many times, very high quality pictures are easily possible with that limit. It hardly seems like a huge effort. You know, if you are wanting to post photos can I just point out a few other things if you like what w -

Out of interest, is that a big hassle or too restrictive? I know people will be using different software for photos, but if you use something like http://www.irfanview.com/ you can change them all at once and it is very simple. I would think photos can all be shrunk down to looks really good below 500KB, and certainly if they were much bigger it would take longer to load and also take up much more space etc. But I am open to hearing thoughts on that. -

SnowJapan replied to BradMaark's topic in General off-topic discussions
Thanks. It has been a really awful day with one unwelcome thing and another. I have been able to do about 30 minutes of what I planned to do today. I think I'll take tomorrow off. At least it is snowing outside! -

It has been a trying morning, what with some server stuff going on. Just totally not in the mood.... Then 'Brad' turns up with his blatant forums spam. I thought I would just keep the above post on here - obviously changing the links and his company name to MYCOMPANY - just to show people some of the garbage we have to put up with. Sometimes it gets through like this one did. Happily, he only got approx. 60 seconds of airtime out of it. -

Hello billsensei I have deleted your other post. You are welcome to use these Forums but we really do not appreciate the attitude displayed towards firstly other members of the Forums who were simply trying to help and also towards us. These Forums are generally a very friendly and helpful place to be and I think many people like that about them. To come on here as you did with your first few posts is certainly not the way to endear yourself to other members and get the help that you are asking for. They do not owe you anything, and neither do we, so please keep that in mind if you po
