  1. No doubt they reduce the impact the brain can suffer by absorbing/dissipating some of the shock it may incur bouncing from one side of the skull to the other, it is a percentage game. People also get a false sense of security from wearing them and they can contribute to increased injuries. They definitely help with prevention of minor cuts and abrasions which is extremely positive... better a mild concussion than a mild concussion and 15 stitches. But the the thing that pushes the wearing of a helmet over the top for required safety gear (in my mind) is skull fractures. You still may
  2. TRUE! From experience... the wax goes up the normal holes in the bottom (if it has them) can stay there and burn if you don't clean it while still warm so you might end up with old wax mixed with the new especially if you change wax types for temps times of year. Still a good option and they have a larger ironing surface which can speed things up. Watch the heat they can also get a lot hotter than required. Keep the iron moving... slowly.
  3. Kenny, might not be of any help but it is easy to do it yourself and that is "while you wait" so to speak . It is pretty easy: Scrape, minor tune and wax, buffed back to ridable takes me a very leisurely 1 hour with beer(s) in hand. My 8 year old daughter helps melt the wax on too You can get an edging tool, wax and wax iron and buff stone for a reasonable price online. (Perhaps as much as or 1.5 times the price of a shop tune). Plenty of videos on what to do available on line as well. If you bases does not need any Ptex repair or the edges do not have any major imperfections,

  6. Thanks, I have had a couple of earlier Xacti as well and still have the original HD1000, have you tried the filming in 920 to get a higher field of view as opposed to the wide... I ended up getting a wide angle lens for the HD1000 Xacti to keep filming in full HD but even that wasn't enough for me, hence two cameras now when I added to GoPro, but still use the 920 res.
  7. Nice BM I thought it was Darth Vader at first What camera you using?

  12. Thx! BUT while I would like to take some credit, my job was video ( another short one coming soon), either my sis or another one of our party took these all. That one with the trees framing it did come out good

  19. Why so contemptuous Ski? Or is it sarcasim? Facitious? I don't understand the tone Seemed like a valid and most reasonable observation that a lot of Gaijin prefer not be around smoke when eating... Hasn't a lot of the western world banned it in establishments where food is consumed. I don't understand why so many people can't have a reasonable discussion on some (most) issues even if a bit contentious on web forums.
  20. Seemed like that to me GN...We went to quite a few places in Kutchan that my travel companions immediately wrote off as soon as we opened the door because of the smoking, the place we settled on was the one that had "No Smoking" written in English out the front.
  21. Yo TB sorry late reply... yes perhaps it was... The whole mountain is clear and she chose the trees Alone and cold... found this little guy just sitting there Rescued! Obligatory Yotei pic
