  3. Fantastic Mike Pow ! ! Looks amazing and glad to see some platinum's ! Hope to check out some steep stuff one of these days - cheers for the taste
  4. Another killer day here in Hirafu. Lots of goodness still to be found in many places. This was taken on Higashi One. We traversed around from the gate above hana 3 and it was deep out there. Warmed up a bit in the afternoon but it is snowing again right now... no wind and big old fat flakes falling straight down woop woop
  5. Well the epic conditions continued yesterday and "The Peak" was the buzz word. While waiting for the single chair to start running we ducked into Hana 3 for a look expecting it to be tracked out from the previous day as we didn't get that much over night and woe and behold - no tracks and bottomless again. Headed up the peak afterwards and waited for a while for the weather to clear while we pondered which way to go ...eventually decided to try the backbowl...not the best decision was a bit icy up top but pretty sweet after 100 meters or so. I spent most of the run riding icy ridges
  6. Well today was ONE of those days...don't know if the snow was incredible as it seemed or the fact that there very few people up there to enjoy it ...maybe both Bottomless, very cold and fast. After a long season it was a mission to even stop and pull out the camera...these pics don't really do the morning justice but whatever. A lot of dazed happy people wandering around the village today - BAM
  7. Woke up to this ! Going to be magic up there...20 - 30 at village level ? This one's for you Boyo ! ! YEEEEEWWWWWWW
  8. Nighter this evening was deeeep in places and really felt like mid winter up there ..amazing stuff and center 4 was the only lift running. Tomorrow morning - GAME ON !
  9. Woah right ! Thanks for that Mr Wiggles. Got it - old growth - yeah didn't check my facts on that one. Sugi pines it is. Would love to check out Okusha some day..
  10. Hey Jimmer Thanks for posting that pano bit of a mission freezing skiers/boarders hitting the rail but cool to see it on this site ( THANKS SNOWJAPAN ) Down south in Shiga Kogen right now and hoping for some snow as the conditions were pretty awful today on the mountain... warm, zero vis and spring like snow. Tubby looks like there are some great spots to shoot and cheers for the recommendations - i am going to have to get the ski's on to get into some of the Ski only sections...my skiing friends forgot to tell me about that ! Camera back pack and steep runs will be a struggle
  11. Classic ! Some great get up's down here - love this one ! 'Fast Skiing Team'
  12. Have spent a lot of time in old growth pine tree runs. Really high trees 20-30m Found myself on a south facing steep slope yesterday in warm conditions which was a bit freaky ! got out of there quickly. Nozawa Onsen hasn't dissapointed. Moving on later today to Shiga Kogen.
  13. Change is as good as a holiday so they say and Nozawa Onsen is an awesome change of scene. One of the oldest resorts in Japan steeped in history ( excuse the pun) and really does have the best of both worlds - fantastic skiing / riding set in beautiful village. I could go on and on but.... I love Hokkaido but really cool to check out some of the stuff around Nagano - love the steeps !
  14. Sweeet pano ! hey wondering if you have any tips / recommendations for Nowaza Onsen / Skiga Kogen ? I am heading down to Nagano today for 10 days and know nothing about either place. Lazy i know.
  15. Something that is easy to put out of your mind when living in Hirafu in winter is snow clearing... she'll be right..no worries...i'll do that later and by then it's TOO LATE !!!! Had to call in the cavalry as i had ice about to smash all of the windows on one side of my house. Fun fun. Spent 5 hours chipping away yesterday and was hating snow by the end of it. So spare a thought for the unsung hero's of Hirafu our snow clearers ! I'll spare you the details of the fun i had a few weeks back when i had to dig down through the snow and then the top soil to get to the drain !

  17. Awh thanks very much I was just kidding i use a Nikon D700. Went out this morning for a few runs ...not bad still super cold but not much had fallen but still decent. Did one run through Roys and then 1 in Miharashi. The sun popped out a few times but we didn't get any luck with the timing. Good to get back on the resort after not riding up there for a while.
  18. Hey Mike - Snaked by a snowboarder eh' ouch ! "Before I could answer, he told me that a snowboarder had already ridden down.In that moment I was excited knowing that someone had made turns and deflated knowing that they'd beaten me to it." Awesome thread love the photography....so sweet ! Chin up boy o
