  1. Yeah, Tubby you are not wrong there ... That´s why I had wanted to live and l have lived in Australia for most of my past. I guess it´s the surburbian mentality that I can´t handle. I feel I´m back at my old (parents) house in Tokyo. But then again, I´d rather live in Germany or Japan than living in England, that´s for sure.
  2. I look Japanese. My looks don´t change. I can do a wacko jacko but have no buck-o
  3. Then you should live here and live here like sheep ... It´s a good place to live by the rules "they" set, don´t have to make decisions, don´t have to question things and pretend you have high social standards and "holocaust guilt" as a national identity. I hate this place. It makes you retard. The TV sucks. I count about 20 - 25 ads in a 10-15 min ad break and they have to roll back the program to start again. The language makes you retarded , too IMHO. Most Euro language is content to have masculine and feminine word forms. The German have 3, and extra Neutral. Now, a kid can study an
  4. Nice ones ! Mobile phone camera, huh, impressive ! The light and the shadows ...
  5. I like Italia. Italians like Japanese so I always have a good time there. Dolomites is huge, the snow is good, the food is tops. 3 -4 hours drive from our place. Easy drive if you don´t worry about the mad Italian driving.
  6. Go to a boot fitter - I never have seen one in Japan. The States and Germany have them. They can make them slightly bigger where it rubs, and they have linings, etc ... If you are wearing hard boots, you can get full replacement linings. 0.5 too big is no big deal. I actually need to have my toe wiggling space. But if it is wide, I don´t like it.
  7. If it is for a week , self-catering and the place must have a bathtub. Not into 4 star hotels. Have done "half-pensions" meaning breakfast and dinner included and we get disappointed with dinner. We cook better than most restaurants. So, if it´s for a few days, we just do the breakfast option. Dinner time is when we wish we were in Japan.
  8. Frying rice you know the japanese can´t pronounce that I thought it was a Char-Han threat. (stir fried rice)
  9. Woa, very expensive bindings tripler ! I like the Aluminum base plate bindings. Mine is too. As to the binding selection, I really have to say that you gotta fit the boot into the binding (this can be done in your hands) to see the boot width fits snug with the binding at the base and the highback contour . How the highback raps around the back of the boot. You might feel limited in your movement going from nose to tail when it´s too stiff. I´m a ex-skier so the front lean on my boots when skiing is really important for me. That translates to sideways body movement, (nose to tail ) in sn
  10. I reckon when they talk freeride, they are talking All-mountain freeride and not just pow. Ever seen the freeride competition vids? There are on 70 degrees, ice, rock .. pick your own line with no margin for error. No wonder Xavier rides the Rossi experience with hardcore magna-traction . Carving is just something I do, Doesn´t matter where but I associate it with hard pack and boot depth powder. You don´t need super stiff boots for carving - but I have to say that I only weigh 60 kg. So perhaps if you are heavier, a little more stiffer boots. I like stiff bindings. By using softe
  11. Sand, I think there are people who does water- jet cutting in NZ. That would be the cleanest option .. you probably have to buy a new saw blade to do it yourself anyways.
  12. People used to send their fav boards over to a guy to get it chopped and edge inlay - Mainly because there weren´t that many splitboards out there. Those days are over imo. There are good factory made splits out there you can choose from. Unless you are going hardcore touring over hard /icy conditions you won´t need edges. Actually, if you are boarding powder only, you don´t need an edge! Splitting a cheap board like Charlie Slasher is a great option. Snowboarding and buying boards aren´t investments. They are disposable tools which do not last. When you don´t have the bucks, you improvise a
  13. Hey tripler. Unless you are a hard booter or racing, I wouldn´t worry too much about ultimate edge control. Stiff boots plus binding can/will sacrifice one important aspect - style and flexibility. I got the stiffest board, stiff bindings (aluminum) with firm contact with medium stiff boots BUT ... I wear my front side boot tight and my rear side very loose. For me, it is not important to have stiff boots and I will only buy one if I go touring on splitboard. BM adjust his boots tight/loose as well, I recall.
  14. Aint got nothing to do with wood or metal work. You just chop it and screw it . You are fussing and being a wuss. As a matter of fact, if it does end up with a wavy cut, the two sides will stay together better (less slipping forward and back) when boarding. .. haha
  15. People have done it with hand saws. Buy a cheap electric saw and do it. You have been on Splitboard, com where there are heaps of DIY info and recommendations and you know people have split the Charlie. sand, that Xavier´s vid is cool. Makes it look easy and fun !
  16. Let me add something to filter thru all the information given. From everywhere and above. Regardless of your height and weight, the truth is only you will find the board you like in length and flex and shape Missus and I are about 55-60 kg, size 8 boots, about 5´8 so we are compact sized. We love our boards long length, narrow waist and stiff in the centre to tail. We ride boards 157, 159 and would like to go longer. Missus only took a day to get used to going from 151 to 159 and she would never go back to her old 151 size. Reason - stability at high speed and powder float. From o
  17. Ippy, you won´t believe the shit I got from snowboarding forum. I was quite shocked to know that there are really narrow minded snowboarders employed in that industry. I got a standard lecture ; ! What is your credentials ? I bin snowboarding for so long / am an instrucor / employed by the industry. ! I went to a snowboard factory tour at K2 and they explained to me blah blah ... ! There are female ninjas and they use different weapons than men. So women use different snowboard from men. I practice Ninjutsu and know a lot of martial arts, believe me ... ! It´s like a car. Ferrari ar
  18. WOW. First time I went to Naeba was 74 so I see some familiar landscape. What´s impressive is that the person in the photo has new gear and wearing shades. Sassy ! Metal poles and ski boots - Mine was wooden poles and leather mountaineering boots.
  19. I have a major issue about this Men´s vs Women´s boards. I personally think imho it´s a marketing hype and putting graphics that appeal to women. I adress this isssue that a board should be designed with lightweight people in mind. Different sidecurves and waist width, and soft/hard flex. So it´s just a Unisex board, different weight parameter, and choose your own topsheet design I have been slammed when I said this from snowboard marketing types and women. Yes, it´s like the battle of sexes but in this case I feel like it is brought on by the Wimmen .. like a feminist board thing.
  20. Hochzillertal is where I leart how to snowboard from my Missus. I have fond and painful memories - not exactly a place for beginners. But the place starts early, so it is one of the places we go. Hochzillertal and Hochfugen is connected and gives us a lot of places to go. Off piste is easy access and more like ungloomed sidecountry. Still, it´s a big mountain.
  21. Say, if you are in Japan or Australia, and want stuff from EU or USA, you won´t be paying their VAT or sales tax. The import duties applies when the shipment is over AUD1000, YEN10000, (whatever) including added shipping costs. THe local consumption tax, this one is tricky, it depends and I suggest you check it ...but for me an extra 3-5% is no big deal considering the total cost. The handling cost, whether at the government level or corporate level ( merchant, courier ) is really up to you if you think the deal is ok. UPS expedited includes all costs for handling. Dhl doesn´t. Some compa
