  1. in australia, the government have been increasing 'pension ages', so depending on current age determines when you can access your superannuation or pension. There is a concern that people won't have enough money to retire on, and the working population won't be able to support a larger number of pensioners. For me, its 65 before I can access my retirement funds
  2. I bet they market them as GOOGLE-GOGGLES LOL
  3. get into the apple action - some shares for you!
  4. an oldie but a goodie, about moving to karratha (1200kms north of Perth) A Diary of a Pom In Karratha August 31st Just got transferred with work into our new home in Karratha, Western Australia, now this is a town that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. What a place! I watched the sunset from a deck chair on the veranda. It was beautiful. I've finally found my my home. I love it here. September 13th Really heating up. Got to 35 today. Not a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday
  5. if I work out a typical sleeping pattern which varies weeknights vs weekend, plus snoozes, I get about 51 hours a week, equalling 7.3 hrs per night average
  6. my oldest son is getting married later this year (at 23) but i'm desperately hoping he's not planning on giving me any grandchildren for a loooooooong time!
  7. depends how you slice it. If you assume say 75 as the average age of death, and you have a beginning, middle and end, then slice 75 three ways, and the middle sector runs from 25 to 50. i doubt very few would agree that society's view agrees with the maths. If you eliminate the under adult years from the maths (say under 18), then the last 57 years divided by 3 approximates: child 0-17 adult: 18 - 38 middle 39 - 57 old 58 - 75 (death) i like to think that I might age, but I'm not getting old!! (and my mentality is still pre-pubescent! LOL)
  8. Sunday Night through Thursday night typically 5-6hrs but try to sleep in on Saturday and sunday mornings and get around 8 hrs. Thats if you don't include the snoozing I do while watching tv
  9. M_I_J, I used to drink when I was 17, but when i turned 18 it became legal - I could no longer see the point!! I gave up when I turned 18 and havent touched a drop since so 30 years of sobriety now (and probably saved myself 2 small fortunes in the process! )
  10. I can honestly say I've never had a hangover but happy to post in this bright colour for anyone who might have one right now!!!
  11. Yes, Perth is expensive, but I'm quite fortunate that i'm involved in the game that has made it expensive, so its all relative. the highlights of Perth also include - the relatively low crime rate, - no pollution, and a fresh sea breeze every afternoon that blows any signs of pollution away. - the beaches are spottlessly clean - i know i can walk all day long without fear of stepping on a broken bottle or dirty syringe - traffic congestion isnt too bad - the average size house still has 4 or 5 bedrooms, at least 2 bathrooms and is well over 200sq.m - and probably has a pool too
  12. you certainly have a strange and contorted view of what a bogan is, and you have even managed to form a view that I am one? i dont drink i dont smoke I dont enjoy AFL footy I dont listen to ACDC i was born in England, and dont have an Aussie accent I dont have tattoos I dont have piercings I drive two european cars I work in a professional office environment, wearing suits as required But you seem to be an expert on this, so please enlighten me on what makes a bogan?
  13. oh dear GN, you're more than happy to give it, but your princess doesnt like receiving it?
  14. Perth is not an overly humid place, typically dry weather by world standards, even it it has been a bit higher than normal lately. I do recall when we used to get 40+ degrees with 3% humidity - if you went out in the sun, you'd spontaneously combust!!
  15. Well, I actually got to Japan after all!! unfortunately it was only two days in Tokyo, so no snow. Weather was very nice though, a sweet change compared to the disgusting 40s weve been getting in Perth!
  16. I'm 28 floors up in Tokyo at the moment and it woke me up, slight skaking went on for at least 10 seconds Felt bigger than Wednesday evening's, but I was at ground level then, so my height is probably what made the difference
  17. we had every intention of being in Hakuba this season. Unfortunately Mrs G broke her ankle last year and it still hasnt healed. she had surgery a few weeks ago and all is improving finally. Fingers crossed we'll see you next January instead (with an even better season!!)
  18. actually, MB, one of our trips, one of the kids threw up everywhere as we were coming in to land. Would it be reasonable to ask for a partial refund for the food he didnt retain? LOL
  19. that actually makes rational sense - a 3 yr old is sitting in a seat that would be otherwise occupied by a full-fared adult. The 5% discount represent the less food and fuel they would need to complete the journey
  20. haha TB, Monty Python has a sketch to cover virtually every real life situation! and thanks MB, we were at Thredbo in august 11 and were hoping to be in Hakuba around now, but Nikki (wife) broke her ankle on ourr last day at Thredbo and recovery isnt going too well. she had surgery 2 weeks ago and hopefully we will see an improvement over the next 8 weeks or so. Cant afford any snow this year due to other financial drains, but plan on being in Hakuba in early 2013
  21. my oldest son (now 22) is Mr Mature and Responsible - he's been an adult since he was about 4 years old! On the other hand his younger brother (21 this year) wont be an adult for at least another 20 years!
