  1. yaaaaayyyy!!! But im farily certain ill find a resort of similar magnitude and splendiferity around my new neck of the woods!
  2. I ainticipate that the 2nd grade elementary school level Kanji i attained is going to work WONDERS for me!
  3. It all is. And in other mad news, after some 30 [redacted] years on planet earth i finally know my blood type! Im o positive. Yay! Or boo! i always wanted to be ab so i could annoy my japanese friends
  4. And in other late breaking news. Ive run out of time for a job in korea. Guess i should have chased a hagwon job... And in other later breaking news... unlike in korea where it seemed to be sitting around for a week at a time twiddling thumbs waiting for a job that i 'definitely have' only to realise my application was being submitted to the board of ed (seriously, im still waiting... WAITING... to find out if i have a job i 'definitely have' 3 weeks ago that i was guaranteed id receive the boes final decision 2 weeks ago, which became last weekend, which became this tuesday, which hasnt g
  5. Second two weeks of January for nagano at least. It was somewhat disrupted by last year (january was rubbish), but usually for consistent drops thats the best time. They aint the heaviest, just the most chance of daily freshies. Late Jan/early feb seems to get the heaviest drops, but its such a crap shoot that if youre pushed for time you might end up (as i did every time i came over from korea) with extended periods of not all that much. Last year though was off the wall, and arguably even though i SAY that i got not much, i was in furano getting sunshine, whilst im pretty sure nagano was get
  6. Brilliant stuff, love hearing about places id never think about riding. Sounds pretty positive by all accounts. Love this pic as well: Great work on getting that boarder down the hill. As for terrain, looks genuinely fun. Nice and wide, lots of ways to shoot down it and score your own lines. All in all, on the list. Thanks. ETA: Had a bulgarian flatmate in my abortive return to the UK, brilliant guy. So ill add nice people to the list.
  7. but not all hagwons are alike. Some are actually half decent. Only you kinda need to get those through referral
  8. Its basically entry level job - heavy schedule, low pay, few if any holidays etc. Its hard to explicate it when ALT jobs in japan are worse in a few regards (low pay, no benefits, punitive clauses in contracts, pro rata), so still 1000 times better. But a shit job is still a shit job,
  9. Nothing yet. On monday i find out if i got the job in cheongju. I honestly doubt it though. I asked for feedback at the end of the interview (i always do when i want a job). She said that though im clearly a qualifed and excellent teacher (i may of course be adding my own emphasis here), she is worried that my experience might be a barrier to adapting to their system. Since ive had that one before (hiya AtoZ), i know theres very little you can do to change peoples minds when they decide on something. However, and not to be too complex, but shes likely right So were AtoZ. I have lots of will t
  10. haha, fly by the seat of your pants. Long term plan is to be a philosophy lecturer. But i might as well say Olympic heptathlete for all the chance of that one happening. So since its my one and only plan, everything else is the sideshow until i make my bed in a gutter staring at the stars and wondering what the **** happened.
  11. oooh, have we got our first character troll? Im soooo excited!
  12. ...anddddd breaaaattthhhh... Turns out the crc is valid up until the docs are submitted to korean immi by the employer, and NOT when i take up the position and land in korea! yay! Thats pretty much done.
  13. And just like a bus, three come along at once... only... the math... its a problem. Ive got a very good chance of at least one of these jobs landing tomorrow (final stage interviews in two of them, awaiting outcome of boe decision on the third). But even if i get the job i might still be in fact screwed. You see, my crc expires on the 21st September. Thats like 2 and half weeks away! no problem! they send the contract, i mail the docs off, they get the visa number, i do the visa run. Yay! but its not so simple... In a hail mary play, i sent my docs to the most proactive and trustworth
  14. yeah, never was taught anything so it was all new to me. All ive done since year dot is a lesson plan that follows the format: Warm up. bunch of teaching stuff until kids get fed up or they know enough to play the game/do the activity. Game. Cya! Maybe a worksheet or two thrown in for good measure as well. But really, its been turtles all the way down.
  15. I left trat long ago im afraid. The maids here actually knock
  16. KK, today in effect i complete my TEFL (as in my last day teaching - in about 2 hours) tomorrow is a revision/review day and friday is exam/blowout. So what did i learn? Surprisingly a fair bit. I genuinely didnt expect all that much. But then again im a grammar moron so if you dont really know the VERY INCREDIBLY SIMPLE RULES for a tense then youll get lots out of it too. Starting with the PPP lesson plan (present/practice/produce). Genuinely dislike the method. Too methodical if that makes sense to anyone. In summary, 5 minte warm up, then structured elicit on all vocab - elicit,
  17. I assume peachy/rosy or some other nice smelling fruit/flower?
  18. as it happens, i sent another hail mary to one of my former japan contacts. They were always keen to employ me but really wanted me to get a tefl. So maybe even without the visa i might still end up back there and working Doubt it though. Just got semi encouraging news on a place just south of seoul. Just waiting to see if the school seems happy with the idea since i dont have elementary school xp, (but have korean ps teaching exp and elementary exp in both japan and thailand). Not a perfect fit but if we can jump the first hurdle then things might not be so dramatic. That being said, earlies
  19. Whoopsie. Guess i made yet another miss-step. Held out through July for a position in Gangwon do. Nothing came up. Week 1 figured i still had time. Week 2 was so busy lesson planning that forgot to check. At the end of the week suddenly mentally worked out the logistics and thought faaaaaaaark! better get on it. Had a look and the pickings were mega slim. Got nothing back. Week 3 all PS jobs gone! Got one possible lead, turned out to be false as after the interview with the recruiter got offered yet another entry level shitty hagwon job. Week 4... Turns out for emergencies now, theres en
  20. Isnt he a HUGE fan of the nug. And by huge i mean HEEEEEUUUUUUUUUGGGGGEEEEE!!! i maybe mis-remembering this but i think i remember him once talking it up as the next logical step in snowboarding. He might just be meaning that riding with Terje a bit has changed his mind on it. So he still loves the concept and size of the nug, but he also realises theres scope for some serious float with a wider shape. I dont think he means that tapering the board or making it wider is the ONLY way to get float or even the best way, but just that its the best way for what he wants to do with his sig board: ie.
  21. Asean is just a general platform for countries from south east asia to debate and proceed towards a common south east asian identity. Whilst AEC is an economic agreement allowing the free movement of people, capital and produce between those countries. Kinda like the european union in a way.... sort of, since the EU actually incorporates the European Economic community (now the EC) into the EU and sees it as a corner stone of EU discussion and organisation. AEC means members of states outside thailand can now come to thailand and work here without the current visa restrictions they face.
