The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It was rain for most of the day yesterday. Not nice. Enough of that, let's try to wipe it from our memories. And that will be quite easy this morning because anyone getting higher up on the mountains today will be treated to a truly spectacular view of a thick sea of clouds covering the valley - with blue skies above it. Truly stunning scenery. Get it while it lasts! For those staying down in the village it's cloudy and foggy in places and not much to be seen at all. You need to get high up. The cloud will probably disperse this morning leaving us with sunny conditions lower down as well and temperatures approaching double digits at base. More of that is expected tomorrow too after a clearer night tonight. Oh yes, and snow is still expected on Monday and Tuesday. Just how much a return to winter like conditions it will be remains to be seen. Chilly overnight here in Hakuba and a chilly start to the morning but the sun is going to be out for the day once again today and will be warming us up. Expect some icy and hard conditions first thing but soon softening up thanks to the sun. High temps of about 13 degrees likely today down here in the village and it should be warm higher up on the slopes too. Forecast for tomorrow is cloud with the chance of rainfall later on, but it shouldn't be lasting long with a return to fine weather conditions as we enter the new week. --- Hakuba Goryu: Reporting 0cm of new snowfall. More snow on the ground this morning with Cortina reporting 10-20cm and Hakuba 47 just a few cm at base and up to 10cm on the mountain. So there should be fresh out there with snow forecast for the day today and overnight, clearing up tomorrow. We'll probably be back to sunny skies by the weekend. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Morning from Hakuba, and it's rain this morning I'm afraid - rain also being reported from the upper slopes this morning as well. We've had enough rain for April so far I reckon... enough! Very poor visibility most of the places that remain open early this morning. Good news for weekend visitors though as the rain should be easing off soon (by lunchtime?) and by tomorrow we'll be enjoying clear skies and sunshine. That's what the forecast tells us anyway. Temperature might not rise to 10 degrees today but will break through and rise to up to around 15 degrees tomorrow afternoon. Sunday should generally be fine soon. Here's to a fun full-on spring weekend. --- Hakuba Goryu: Hakuba Goryu plans to be at least part open until Sunday 10th May. Hakuba Goryu Telecabin Gondola, Alps Number 1 and 3 pair lifts operating. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Light rain is falling early on this morning I'm afraid, though it looks like it should be stopping fairly soon and leaving us with just cloudy skies. I'm not hearing any reports of any snowfall by the way. There's some thick cloud hanging around some upper mountain areas at the moment and poor visibility but perhaps that will also improve quite quickly this morning. A high of around 8 degrees is forecast for the village today, so not warming up that much. Tomorrow will be warmer with a good chance of sun and clear skies in the morning. --- Hakuba Goryu: Hakuba Goryu plans to be at least part open until Wednesday 6th May. Hakuba Goryu Telecabin Gondola, Alps Number 1 and 3 pair lifts operating. Can still ski down to base using Toomi area. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba and here we are on April 8th and I have some snowfall to report. Back to yesterday first and it was light rain on and off during the day but quite a cold day... with snow later on! This morning Happo-one report 5cm of fresh snow and Hakuba 47 are reporting 3-5cm as well. Just a bit down at base areas. It kind of feels a bit like early season this morning. A bit more please. Not deep of course bit it'll be fun to try out a bit of fresh for a change. Things are due to start warming up again from tomorrow to remind us that it's getting on for mid-April. Hopefully we'll be able to avoid rain over the weekend. --- Hakuba Goryu: Hakuba Goryu plans to be at least part open until Wednesday 6th May. There's lots of cloud around this on this very mild/warm morning with a bit of wind to add to the mix - hopefully that won't be affecting top lifts that are open. No rain yet but it's forecast for this afternoon but we are expecting it to be fairly short-lived and the sun will probably be out again tomorrow and taking temps up to close on 20 degrees. Keep in mind to avoid overheating! Back to rain from Sunday with an interesting potential dip in the temperatures around Tuesday when it might even feel chilly once again. The pick of the coming weekend has to be Saturday. --- Hakuba Goryu: Hakuba Goryu plans to be at least part open until Wednesday 6th May. Cloudy skies still over Hakuba early on this morning but it is dry now and the forecast tells us that we should get to see the sun today... it just won't be quite as warm, much like yesterday. Clouds do seem to be getting less quite quickly over the last hour or so, so perhaps we can expect some good weather today fairly soon. Tomorrow the sun is due for the day and temperatures rising over 20 degrees, so it should be a good last day of the season for Hakuba 47 and Tsugaike Kogen. Currently it's looking like we might get some more rain on Thursday... --- Hakuba Goryu: Top of Hakuba Goryu plans to be at least part open until Sunday 10th May. All lower areas arew now closed. Top Panorama, Grand Prix and Super courses remain open. Ride the Gondola back down. The following lifts remain open: - Hakuba Goryu Telecabin Gondola (until 10th May) - Alps Number 1 pair lift (until 10th May) - Alps Number 3 pair lift - Alps Number 2/4 pair lift ** Official snow depth: Alps Daira - 120cm --- Hakuba 47: Hakuba 47 plans to be open until tomorrow. Almost all areas remain open, though lower northern facing areas especially are very thin on snow. The following lifts remain open: - Gondola - Pair lift Line AB - Quad lift Line C - High speed pair Line E ** Official snow depth: Upper - 75cm Lower - 10cm --- Happo-one: Happo-one plans to be at least part open until Sunday 10th May. The top area of the resort remains open - all lower areas now closed, so you need to take the Gondola back down. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba and to the last Hakuba Now report of 14/15 on this last day of the season for Hakuba Happo-one and Hakuba Goryu. There's a lot of cloud around the mountains this morning, though a step back and we can see some blue sky from the village and fine weather is forecast so maybe the cloud will clear up. It's been considerably cooler yesterday and overnight - has been a quite chilly start to the day today - and a real contrast to that hot run of weather we had just a short while back. No doubt temperatures will be rising again in the coming weeks. Strong winds higher up look like they might well stopp the lifts - at least at Goryu - at the start of the day, so please contact the resorts for the latest updates if you plan to get out today. Would be a shame if the weather spoilt the last day. Whatever happens weather-wise, at the end of today the last lifts at the ski resorts in the area will stop moving for the season. There's still snow up there on the mountains of course and no doubt some will be hiking up there - hopefully all with experienced friends, preparation and care. So here we are at the end of a long season. I remember before the ski lifts opened that rather strong earthquake that shook our area on 22nd November. It was not the start that everyone wanted of course. While it certainly caused serious problems for a group of people, luckily for Hakuba generally the damage was not widespread and aftershocks soon eased off. It was really great to see how the community pulled together. The season got going and December saw lots of snow falling and some really great conditions... that always asked question 'when is the best time to visit' never gets easier to answer. Lots more people visited Hakuba from all corners of the world again this last season and that trend will only continue in the coming years. And here we are now well into May. For a good look back at the season that was I recommend taking a read through the archived daily Hakuba Now reports. Remember, you can also read through archived reports from previous seasons as well. All of those are easily accessed from the links at the bottom of this page - go take a look. Once you've read through all that lot, perhaps you can try to make up your own mind on how to best answer that 'when is the best time to visit' question! If you plan on visiting Hakuba over summer - highly recommended by the way - remember that the weather forecasts that are shown on the resort pages of SnowJapan are updated throughout the year. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. And a very good morning it is as well, as I bring good news. As I write this report it is 9am on Saturday 28th November and it's officially going to be the first day of the season in Hakuba. Yes, thanks to that lovely snowfall of yesterday, the top course at Hakuba Goryu is opening this morning from 10am! The Alps Daira Number 1 lift is going to be moving with Hakuba 47 Line E lift joining in the fun from tomorrow. (Entry only via Hakuba Goryu). Tickets are 2500 yen. Happo-one resort is also planning to open from 12 noon with the Kokusai Number 3 lift and Panorama Pair lift due to move with the Panorama course set to open. Tickets are 2600 yen for adults and 1600 yen for children from the Gondola ticket office where the journey to the snow starts. Can't see any news from Tsugaike Kogen just yet though they did report up to 20cm of snow at their bus stop. Let's just rewind to yesterday where it was snowing down to the village from the morning, giving us generally around 10cm in many places, though it did let up by evening. It was of course great to see everything turn white and that winter feeling come flooding back. And so to today and the start of the season. It's limited of course and still want much more snowfall, but turns on natural snow are available. And there's even a bit of sunshine at the moment as well. I will do my best to keep you up-to-date each day with the latest lift movements and openings in this early season period. Things can change very quickly even within a day though at this stage of the season in particular, so if you are planning on getting out there I do highly recommend that you check the resort official websites for the latest. Just a quick look at the forecast - not a huge amount of snow over the coming week and a good chance of rain in the village, so we are going to have to keep an eye on that as well. Morning from Hakuba where it is cloudy and around 3 degrees and a bit wet with rain falling at the moment which will hopefully soon stop as the forecast tell us. We might even get to see some sunshine if the forecast is right. All a bit cloudy early on though. It should be colder tonight than it was last night and tomorrow there is a good chance of sun and temperatures rising to about 10 degrees at base village level, perhaps even slightly higher. After that some more rain but that should soon be snow - especially higher on the mountains - through Friday. Let us hope that delivers. It looks like lifts and openings are the same as yesterday this morning with the exception of Line E at Hakuba 47 not operating as was scheduled. --- Resorts that are currently at least part open Hakuba 47: The base area of Hakuba 47 base is still closed open but the top areas of Goryu/47 are open via Hakuba Goryu, as well as the Line E lift. 2500 yen for adults, 1350 yen for children. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Morning from Hakuba where... it is snowing! No 'cm' to log in the report yet for village level but yesterday afternoon Hakuba 47 were reporting 15cm of snowfall up by the Line C lift at 1450m elevation. Happo-one was yesterday reporting up to 20cm of snow on upper areas. It's keeping pretty cold at the moment too and temperatures aren't likely to rise much above zero point today.
