Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 756cm
Posted on Friday 17th April 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.
There has been some snow since my last report. Yes, 5-10cm of fresh snow in places! I will note that in todays report, but please note that it was from the day before yesterday and that night.
The clouds had cleared by yesterday early morning though leaving us with nice blue skies.
It was sunny again this morning and quite mild, and there's was more cloud around. It has quickly got more cloudy this morning. We might even get a bit more snow.
Tomorrow should be warm and sunny and perhaps more of that on Sunday too before we have rain forecast for Monday.
Some news this morning about the opening of the section of Route 292 that connects Shiga Kogen with Gunma Prefecture. It gets buried in large amounts of snow during the winter months of course and earlier this month diggers were out there starting to carve out the road. They plan to have that section of road open from 10am on Friday 24th April, so a week from today. Once that is open, you can get to Shiga Kogen from the south via Kusatsu. Also makes for a great ride as well with impressive snow walls as well as beautiful scenery.
