The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello from Nozawa and it's one of those exciting mornings when I get to report silly amounts of new snowfall. So it was snowing yesterday and there was 10-20cm reported over the mountain by the resort (that's the numbers in the brackets below in the 'fresh snow' bit). This morning they report 60cm of fresh on Yamabiko, 70cm on Uenotaira, 45cm on Hikage and Nagasaka and 40cm on Karasawa. Doing a bit of sums, I make that a haul of 90cm on Uenotaira since yesterday. ! I can confirm there has been definitely over 50cm here at base, and I have the prospect of going to have to go out and shovel it around after I post this report. Oh the troubles of living in Nozawa! Buy yes, forget trying to get exact the numbers are just... big. There's a ton of snow out there again and it will be deep this morning. Visibility is limited on the upper mountain areas in particular. Goes without saying that while it's totally expected to be stoked by the powder out there, don't get over-excited. Take care. Safety! What's more, things aren't busy yet. Well they sure didn't seem to be yesterday and this morning seems about the same from what I can see. I expect things to start getting busy from tomorrow and as we approach the New Year holidays. The sun might join us tomorrow as well with a run of clearer days lined up, and a bit milder too. December 2014 is treating us well. Let's hope the other months of the season deliver as well. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . After some clearer skies yesterday, it's a snowy Chrismtas morning here in Nozawa, which always seems just so fitting. The resort reports 20cm of new snowfall across the mountain (curiously a bit less at the top), and I can indeed confirm such amounts as once I finish this report I'm going to have to go and shovel that lot off the top of my Nozzlemobile. Not too cold this morning just under freezing point and snow falling from the skies still so limited visibility especially on the higher slopes but the fresh powder to play should make up for that. Snow might ease at times during the day. Doesn't look too busy actually this morning, after all it isn't a national holiday here, but I would expect things to really start getting busy this coming weekend. Outlook for the weekend is for the snow clouds to move on and the start of a run of perhaps clearer skies and it won't be as cold either. Maybe get some sunshine from Sunday into next week. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello and a lovely fresh morning from Nozawa. Though I expect not everyone is feeling quite so fresh after the events of last night. As ever on that date in particular, Nozawa was bustling with life last night. 10cm of snowfall since last night and just cloudy skies to start the day off here. A bit wet lower down but would expect the conditions to be better higher up. A significant refresh would be just the ticket now, and hopefully we'll get that overnight tonight. Temperatures look set to take a drop with snow due starting tonight and continuing through tomorrow. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . The snow started falling sometime early morning this morning in Nozawa and the resort is reporting 5cm of snow on the upper slopes and 10cm down at base. I reckon the difference there is the one+ hour between the readings though - lower readings coming in at 8:45am with the top readings at 7:25am) and expect there to be at least the 10cm up top as well by now. It's falling nicely at the moment and at this rate should be piling up and filling in tracks, snowfall due to continue today and through until tomorrow morning. It doesn't feel overly cold at all this morning though. A moderate wind is due today with lifts seemingly unaffected early morning. Hopefully that will remain the case. Generally limited visibility on mountain this morning as the snow comes down. Know where you're going and take care! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . An impressive refresh this morning with 30-45cm of new snowfall being reported by the resort across the mountain. Snow falling and poor visibility isn't affecting the lifts on this last day of the long weekend though so for those wanting to seek out that fresh and brave the elements it's all there available for you. Just know where you're going, and remember not to do anything daft. Things can very easily go horribly wrong in this kind of condition. They can also go fantastically right as well, and snow conditions (weather aside!) should be great this morning. Back to a normal weekday tomorrow. Of course, we are fast approaching the big event of the year here in Nozawa Onsen... yes, the Dosojin Fire Festival which will climax on Thursday evening. And as the forecast is now we're expecting some fine clear conditions on Thursday. From tomorrow onwards actually. The snow clouds should pack up and leave by early tomorrow morning, leaving us to a few days of clearer and milder weather conditions. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . You like fresh snow? We got it! After a day of snowfall and at times rather blusterly winds - at times the snow coming down at quite the speed - the resort is reporting over 50cm of fresh up at Uenotaira and a good solid 30+cm at base since my report yesterday morning. Interestingly less on the upper Yamabiko area than lower down. Dare I say it, but there should be some good deep conditions to be enjoyed this morning. Very nice. Looks like Kamoshika and Tanuki courses are closed this morning, I don't know why but imagine they are checking things over there with all the fresh snow. Nozawa is big scale though so plenty of areas to find that fresh snow. Looking ahead, after a day of cloud and sometimes light snow, a clear and cold night is forecast for tonight with more snow due later on tomorrow. Beyond that a few days of potentially clearer skies and then back to snow around Thursday into Friday. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though. Today will be a very good one. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello from Nozawa. So where's the sun then? Was expecting clearer skies this morning bit it's still grey and cloudy with light snow slowly falling earlier on this morning. It does look like the clearer conditions have been just 'delayed' though as we have the snow easing off leaving us with a cloudy morning to be followed by a clear evening. And sunny conditions tomorrow and the sun will be warming things up a bit. (High of around +4C forecast). According to the resort, more fresh snow on the lower slopes than upper over the last 24 hours with 15-20cm on lower and 0cm on upper during the day. (Possibly a typo? Who am I to argue!) The main thing that matters is that there has been another decent amount of fresh snow over the last 24 hours. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Official numbers show Yamabiko reaching 4m of snow this morning. Yes, this morning we have another good 20cm of snow here, with 30cm being reported from the Uenotaira area of the resort. It has been snowing still early this morning but seems to be easing off and we're expecting just cloudy conditions in Nozawa this afternoon. For the moment though it's limited visibility out there even on the lower areas of the resort. Sunny conditions likely tomorrow morning which should be popular as we aren't getting a huge amount of that this season so far. Complaining about snowfall is not allowed though, so we'll be hearing none of that! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It is a good morning in Nozawa. New snowfall to report - up to 35cm of it on the upper slopes reported by the resort since yesterday morning - less wind and more of the mountain open. Thanks to the fresh snowfall, Skyline is now open along with a number of other courses that were not open. The snow depth numbers are still very low to what we are used to of course. On this day last year the official snow depth on the upper Yamabiko area was 400cm (compared with 135cm today) and on the lower Karasawa area it was 220cm (compared with 50cm today). That's actually a pretty stark contrast isn't it, even considering that last season we enjoyed a really great start. It's the fresh snow on base that is important to us in the here and now, though with much less of a base that may well impact the length of the season. So - as if it needs saying! - we want as much snow as possible to try and catch up to the norm. The forecast is for light snow at times today and tomorrow to be followed by potentially heavy snowfall over the weekend, in particular on Sunday. Onegai shimasu. For the moment though, there were lots of people eager to get up on the first lifts this morning and I think I will go and join them having fun in this fresh snow. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa where... it's sunny. Hmmm, where be the storm? We did get some snowfall yesterday with the resort yesterday afternoon reporting 3-5cm across the mountain, but no more snowfall this morning and as I said sun along with some blue skies over us at the start of the day. Good news this morning is that the upper parts of Skyline are once again open (lower part still closed) as well as Schneider and Kamoshika course. A good storm for a few days would hopefully get most of the rest of them open... it is still being promised by the forecast. Proper heavy snowfall is expected tonight and snow clouds due to be over Nozawa and the region through the week and over the weekend. Come on!!! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa and just a few cm down here at base really with the resort reporting 3-7cm of fresh snowfall since yesterday. Very light snow falling as I write this with light snow forecast for pretty much all of the day today. Tomorrow might start off cloudy (maybe even a bit of sunshine according to some forecasts), but by the end of the day it should be snowing and there's a good chance of heavy snowfall going into Sunday as well. Feels cold this morning and now -2 here in the village and it probably won't change much during the day. Expect Sunday in particular to be colder. Fingers crossed!
