Lots of cloud around, but since then more blue sky has shown up and a bit of sun here and there - it feels like it might clear up, though the forecast says different with snow due later today and into tomorrow. Monday to Friday mostly is forecast good weather conditions... good as in sun, clearer skies and calm, along with milder temperatures. Nothing to get alarmed about though as it should remain in zero numbers through the week. But the peak of the snow and windy conditions we had yesterday has passed and there's now blue sky over me and the sun is shining through my window. Time to get out I think! Should be a good one. Looks like wind is affecting some lifts at a few places this morning (Ichinose Diamond, Okushiga Kogen and Yokoteyama) but conditions are improving and I would expect them to get moving soon enough. More snow on the forecast for tomorrow. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Early morning clouds quickly clearing now and we have lots of blue sky above the region. A very cold start but the sun should take the edge of that chill as the morning moves on; the sun should be with us for the day today and maybe tomorrow too. The forecast for mid week seems to have been downgraded somewhat in terms of potential snowfall, but we're still forecast to be getting snow around Tuesday. It should be a fine weekend. Some lift disruption at a few areas - Yokoteyama, Okushiga Kogen - this morning with a few more lifts moving slower. Should all change tomorrow though with clear skies and the sun forecast. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Snow continues to fall over Shiga Kogen and another 10-15cm on the slopes. It's very cold this morning with a northerly moderate wind blowing. Clearer skies and slightly milder conditions expected for the weekend. The sun might even make an appearance. Conditions should be great for the weekend though. Bit of a change - from today we are changing the "snow depth" number that is recorded in the report to be the one reported by Kumanoyu resort area - reason being that they seem to be the most active in updating the number each day. Previously it was taken from Maruike. The "new snowfall" will remain the generally observed number. Fine weather conditions yesterday made for somewhat crusty snow conditions in places on the slopes, and this morning there's about 5-10cm of fresh on top of that. Intermittent snow showers forecast for today and tomorrow. From the weekend, somewhat milder weather is due for the region - it'll still be cold here and below zero of course! - with more sun than snow lined up. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Snow, reduced visibility and a moderate wind is what sums up this morning. It was much calmer as yesterday ended, but this morning much more stormy with very limited visibility at the moment - certainly in the Maruike area where I am now but earlier on I was up at the Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama area and I couldn't see much in front of my up there either. The wind and conditions are affecting some lifts around the area. In particular most of the lifts at Okushiga Kogen mostly seem to be on hold; other than that just a few other lifts showing sings of 'waiting for conditions to improve' as I write this. Snow is forecast for throughout today and easing off by tomorrow morning. Wind too hopefully. Watch out for the cold though it's actually going to get colder as the day goes on today and should be extremely cold overnight. Wind chill! Well we were when I got up, it has eased off again now and there's even some sun as well. I think 'changeable conditions' pretty much sums it up this morning. The forecast is for that today - maybe get some fresh snow on the ground - with more snow expected tomorrow. Better chance of heavier snow falling come tomorrow. After that once we get into next week we are looking at a good chance of a run of fine, clear days. Sun and milder conditions. A cloudy start to the day with light snow still falling in some areas early on; the snow clouds are due to ease off and move out today and we might enjoy some clearer skies this afternoon. That's what we're due tomorrow as well with the next fresh cm of snow due Saturday. It should get a little milder over the next few days, though will likely remain around or under freezing point even so. Full on winter here this morning. The people still here for the last day of their long weekend may not be so happy at braving blizzard conditions, but a lot will keep us good for a while. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A dusting of new snow is about all we had this morning but it was snowing early on but... it's actually quite nice now, here in Maruike anyway. Clouds cleared a bit and some sky to see, the sun even peeking through as well. Calm before the storm perhaps as we are still being told to expect heavy snow tonight over a wide region along with a return to some extremely cold temperatures and a real mid-winter feel. There should be lots of fresh for the new year. If you plan to be here, be sure to come prepared for the conditions extra layers at hand. See you next year!
