Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 10cm
Snowfall at base this season 657cm

Posted on Saturday 17th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

The snow started falling sometime early morning this morning in Nozawa and the resort is reporting 5cm of snow on the upper slopes and 10cm down at base. I reckon the difference there is the one+ hour between the readings though - lower readings coming in at 8:45am with the top readings at 7:25am) and expect there to be at least the 10cm up top as well by now.

It's falling nicely at the moment and at this rate should be piling up and filling in tracks, snowfall due to continue today and through until tomorrow morning. It doesn't feel overly cold at all this morning though.

A moderate wind is due today with lifts seemingly unaffected early morning. Hopefully that will remain the case.

Generally limited visibility on mountain this morning as the snow comes down. Know where you're going and take care!
