The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Snow, snow and lots more snow. Not sure that we were all expecting quite as much as this, perhaps just hoping. But the heavy snowfall has continued and here's what we have had since my report yesterday. This all official numbers coming from the resort: Yesterday as of 3pm... Yamabiko - 45cm Uenotaira - 50cm Hikage - 40cm Nagasaka - 38cm Karasawa - 30cm And this morning... Yamabiko - 30cm Uenotaira - 25cm Hikage - 0cm (?) Nagasaka - 20cm Karasawa - 0cm (?) I add those up and come to a Nozawatastic total of... Yamabiko - 75cm Uenotaira - 75cm Hikage - 40cm Nagasaka - 58cm Karasawa - 30cm ...since yesterday morning. The official snow depths have all taken a big jump. Those are big numbers and exciting to look at but do bring on their own set of problems. One of the most important ones being dangers of avalanche. Probably best to stick to the courses - there's tons of fresh snow to play in. Venturing outside invites risk. Yesterday, I mentioned that Skyline was closed. It did open, though during the day Rinkan, Kamoshika and Tanuki closed no doube due to dangers and the resort made the call. They remain closed today it seems. This morning the snow continues to fall. The forecast says that later on in the day today it might ease up and we will end the day with just cloud but there's a decent chance of more snow tomorrow. Transportation issues (non running Shinkansen and closed Expressways) due to the unexpected snow mainly in the Kanto regions stopped people from getting to Nozawa yesterday and issues remain today. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . I am the bearer of good news this morning. New snow. Nice powdery snow. Oh yes. Yamabiko - 20cm Uenotaira - 25cm Hikage - 30cm Nagasaka - 35cm Karasawa - 25cm So today, most snowfall on... Nagasaka?! Interesting. But bottom line is there's a good wad of new light fresh snow over all the mountain as we feel like we are back to winter again. Although it's strangely mild and just about keeping in the negatives for now. We are being told of the chance of the snow being sleet later on down here at base, but I hope we avoid that. Just a few less exciting things to report. First of all it looks like early on the popular Skyline course is closed, as well as the Kamoshika course. I don't have any details on that or whether they will open later on in the day. The other is that this weekend again heavy snow is falling in places where it often doesn't - down to the south including the Tokyo area. There seems to be widespread disruption to traffic with roads closed and trains cancelled. This will mean less people getting here, which while sad for those people it means less crowds for those who are here. Should be a top day today. Enjoy. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . After that somewhat wild weekend, things have calmed down somewhat now. Cloudy with light snow early this morning and generally just cloudy conditions and sometimes snow forecast for today and just cloudy tomorrow. Perhaps even a bit of sun. Yesterday during the day there was another 5cm or so of snow over the mountain and this morning Nozawa is reporting up to 10cm on the upper slopes, with none down at base. It's about 0 degrees at the moment, with -7 degrees posted for the top Yamabiko area. Visibility limited on the upper areas this morning at the moment. The Kamoshika and Tanuki runs coming off Skyline still seem to be remaining closed for the moment. So, with a relatively quiet Sunday because of people not actually being able to get here and all that snow, there is still a lot of untouched out there on the courses of the resort. Those trees might look very tempting, but real care needed. It should be a fine morning for anyone getting up there today. Unfortunately I need to go over to Nagano this morning... hopefully tomorrow! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Some of the images coming from Tokyo and surrounding areas are interesting - all that snow! Of course, those people aren't used to the snow and causes all sorts of problems. Take care out there on the roads! On the other hand, of course, we always want that snow where we are here in Nozawa. Yesterday it was snowing all day and we got up to another 20cm or so on all but the base areas of the mountain, and this morning there's another 10cm being reported on Yamabiko and 5cm on Uenotaira areas. Conditions up there today should be great once again. People on the first lifts in particular in for a treat. The snow has eased off since last night and it's just a cloudy morning. Fog being reported on the top area. It's around -3 degrees at the moment here in the village. Perhaps more snow overnight tonight, then it looks like the coming week might be somewhat drier and clearer. But hopefully keep cold. Should be a good day. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa and... it's snowing. There's not a whole lot yet on the ground - as of 7:30am the resort was reporting 2-3cm on the upper areas of the mountain and 1cm lower down. Heavy snow isn't forecast for today - most local forecasts are giving us more just cloudy conditions than snowfall - but it's all looking more exciting from late tomorrow and over the weekend when we can hopefully expect some decent snowfall in the region. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Back here in Nozawa and hearing lots of tales of heroism and epicness from the conditions yesterday. I am itching to get out today and find this all out for myself! A bit more snow overnight (4cm lower down, 10cm on top Yamabiko) but as most of the lifts start moving for the day the sun is out and we have lovely blue skies over Nozawa. Decent snowfall is due again tonight and tomorrow but for now and for probably most of the day today it's going to be clear and sunny. Remember the sunscreen. It should be keeping pretty cold though and hopefully not venturing too much into positive C territory.... and definitely colder again during the day tomorrow. Time for me to strap on the boots and check out this snow. Hope to see you out there. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . I bring good news. Lots more snow here in Nozawa with another.... well, let's list it up. Since yesterday morning: Yamabiko - 35cm Uenotaira - 55cm Hikage - 30cm Nagasaka - 30cm Karasawa - 25cm Yes, the resort is reporting 5cm in the daytime yesterday and 50cm overnight on the Uenotaira area. :) What's more, the sun is out at the moment. It should be a fantastic morning for those lucky enough to be able to get some of the first lifts up this morning. We're actually due snow on and off through the day today and the same tomorrow as well (and the same Sunday as well), so not sure if this clearing of the skies will last but another refill before the weekend crowds arrive would make it quite possibly one of the best weekends of the season. Snow is on the forecast actually through until around Monday, so we're by no means done with this storm yet. Early March is being kind to us... thank you! You'll have to forgive me for today I am in Nagano and this report is coming to you courtesy of the Nozawa official site and a call to a friend over in Nozawa. So it's not coming from my own eyes! Now I don't know if a trick is being played on me, but here's what the resort is reporting this morning: Yamabiko - 30cm Uenotaira - 60cm Hikage - 40cm Nagasaka - 40cm Karasawa - 40cm That's new snowfall since yesterday afternoon. What's more, the sun is out and lots of blue sky. It's keeping cold, -4C in the village as of 8am and just a light breeze. Wow. And here's me stuck in Nagano. Talk about bad timing. I'm hearing it is very busy this morning - as you might expect - but conditions are going to be top notch today with more snow likely before the end of the weekend. I need to get back there and see if this isn't just some cruel trick! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Sun shines down on Nozawa again this morning. I'm just looking at the forecasts and over the next week that looks set to be what we can expect - sun and more sun, a bit of cloud maybe. Temps into the double digits every day here at base. So nice and warm and settled conditions. Note that from today until Wednesday, the Yamabiko B course plans to be closed to the public as there is a competition being held. The resort hasn't updated that info on the live page just yet but I presume that is going ahead as planned. Following on from yesterday, today and tomorrow there's the chance to test out new model skis and snowboards. If you are interested, head up to the top Yamabiko area of the resort at any of the times below... Saturday 12th - 9:30am until 3pm Sunday 13th - 9:30am until 2:30pm ...and check out some next season gear. It's free, but you will need some kind of formal identification that has a photo of yourself on it to sign up and take part. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello and good morning from Nozawa. That planned opening date of Saturday 29th November fast approaches, though there's no snow to report just yet. No need to worry, conditions have generally been turning rather winter like but while it's a cold morning here now (currently just around 3 degrees) it's sunny early on. Changeable conditions forecast. What kind of winter will it be like this season? Hopefully one of those bumper seasons where we have so much regular deliveries of powder that we almost don't know what to do with it all. That would be nice, one of them please Snow Gods. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa and it has continued snowing here on the mountain and down in the village. Here's what the resort has logged since yesterday morning: Yamabiko - 15cm Uenotaira - 20cm Hikage - 18cm Nagasaka - 18cm Karasawa - 15cm Right now it is cloudy and light snow still falling with pretty poor visibility on all but the very lower slopes - can't see much of anything up on the top areas. It's keeping good and cold and about -3 degrees at the moment. Top temperature up on Yamabiko of -10C as of 7:30am. We're actually expecting just cloudy for the day - perhaps even clearing conditions. Snow conditions on the mountain are really great at the moment and this last storm has really filled things in good and proper. I was up there yesterday and fidning lots of untouched, nice and deep - helped along not only by the large amount of snowfall since the weekend but also fewer people than usual because of the traffic situation. The people of Nozawa are certainly hoping that there's no more heavy snow in places where it doesn't matter preventing people getting here! If all transport options are available, I would expect this coming weekend to be a big one with people wanting to come and play in the snow. In the meantime, we have a few days to enjoy it before the weekenders arrive! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello and good morning from Nozawa where light snow has been falling from the skies this morning. The resort reported 15cm of fresh on Uenotaira, and about 7cm on the top Yamabiko areas overnight, with an additional 1-5cm across the mountain up until just after 10am this morning. So just a dusting down at base really but more fresh to be found higher up. I wouldn't expect much more in terms of cm today looking at what the forecasts say - which is mostly just cloud for today. One things the forecasts do seem to agree on though is that there's hardly any snow forecast for the coming week past tomorrow and the potential for lots of sun. We haven't seen a whole lot of the sun of late so it will be good, but lets just hope it doesn't warm up too much. Around Tuesday temperatures are due to be into positive numbers. Should keep cold for the weekend though. Expect Nozawa to be very busy this weekend! Hope you can come and enjoy the current conditions.
