  • Niseko Now: Tuesday 21st November 2017

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 21cm Snowfall at base this season 102cm Posted on Tuesday 21st November 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here I think I used the word 'wow' yesterday, so I feel somewhat unoriginal using it again but... wow! Being unoriginal in November is a little concerning, though in this case, it's good news...! This really is turning up to be an impressive start to the winter season and I can't quite remember such a start. But long may that continue. With the continued snowfall during the day yesterday, this morning I have another 21cm of fresh snowfall here at base to add to the report. We're still looking at a good chance of milder conditions and rain tomorrow. (Booo). Beyond that though, the forecast is looking very nice still. Fantastic. I love being able to bring great news. --- Planned season dates: Niseko Grand Hirafu: Thursday 23rd November 2017 until Sunday 6th May 2018 Niseko Annupuri: Saturday 25th November 2017 until Sunday 6th May 2018 Niseko Village: Friday 1st December 2017 until Sunday 8th April 2018 Niseko Hanazono: Saturday 2nd December 2017 until Sunday 8th April 2018 Floodlit 'nighta' skiing schedule: Saturday 9th December 2017 until Sunday 18th March 2018 Niseko Now 2017-2018 season Data as of Tuesday 21st November 2017 Total snowfall at base so far 102cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 6 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 29cm (20th November) November 2017 snowfall 102cm reported on 6 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 18cm Snowfall at base this season 61cm Posted on Tuesday 21st November 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Well, it's still pre-season, it's still some time until the lifts are moving, but we're still getting snow. In the interest of an accurate database, it's time for another update, as we have another 18cm on the ground today. The freezing line looks like it's going to head up the mountain again tomorrow, so rain is forecast, but there might be some more snowfall later in the week. Fun if it hangs on so we could get some early openings, or, if nothing else, a good solid base to start the season. The 2017-2018 snow season officially started here on Saturday (18th) with the Kumanoyu area of Shiga Kogen operating the Number 2 pair lift and a 600m length of ski course available to slide down. With another 16cm of fresh snowfall being measured over the weekend helped along with snow-making machines, the official snow depth is just 20cm so it's all rather limited - but still, great to see things starting to happen. And good to hear those snow moving machines - I don't even mind if they wake me up early morning! More snow is due tonight so hopefully I might have more to report tomorrow. Already open! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Just a little bit more (wet) snow to report here at base, and good to see and hear about more up on the mountains. Down here around the village the fields are partly covered with snow; kind of like a speckled look going on there! There will hopefully be some new cm to report down to village by tomorrow morning though after that I think we should be expecting milder temperatures for a short while and maybe some sunshine into the mix as well. No official word yet on what might be opening come Thursday. We'll post any news for you here, of course! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 29cm Snowfall at base this season 81cm Posted on Monday 20th November 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Wow! I have another 29cm of fresh snowfall to report to you since yesterday. This really is a very nice run up to the lifts opening at Niseko Grand Hirafu on Thursday, which surely they will be able to do now. It is very likely that it will not continue being full-on winter from now on - we can expect some milder temperatures around Wednesday and Thursday - but still, very happy with how things are shaping up right now. Let's hope that we can avoid rain that might spoil the fun around mid-week... unfortunately it's there on the forecast at the moment. Still, even so fingers crossed it might be snowing at higher elevations. I think there'll be a lot of folk lining up for those first lifts in a few days. It will be fun to see how much can open too, no doubt we'll hear more about that around Wednesday. I will keep you posted, hopefully with news of further snow in my report tomorrow morning. --- Planned season dates: Niseko Grand Hirafu: Thursday 23rd November 2017 until Sunday 6th May 2018 Niseko Annupuri: Saturday 25th November 2017 until Sunday 6th May 2018 Niseko Village: Friday 1st December 2017 until Sunday 8th April 2018 Niseko Hanazono: Saturday 2nd December 2017 until Sunday 8th April 2018 Floodlit 'nighta' skiing schedule: Saturday 9th December 2017 until Sunday 18th March 2018 Niseko Now 2017-2018 season Data as of Monday 20th November 2017 Total snowfall at base so far 81cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 5 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 29cm (20th November) November 2017 snowfall 81cm reported on 5 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . It's still pre-season, so I wasn't really going to add more reports for awhile. But when we get another 20 cm, I have to say something! It's almost the end of the day now, and it is still snowing a bit. The weather report says it probably won't last, but I guess we can all share the fun of the pre-season, up to the time the doors open and we're out on the hill (although a few brave/foolhardy folks were out there today, hiking up and bouncing their way down the slopes—there's lots of stuff under that snow!) It's not actually snowing at base as I write this now but it looks like it's still coming down at higher elevations. Not a huge amount, but it's good to get the reports off to a start. The forecast remains good for more snow during today and through tomorrow too. When you think it's still just 19th November, this is all feeling really good and positive. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Morning from Zao. Just here to report 1cm of fresh snowfall earlier this morning with snow forecast today and tomorrow. A bit of village news I haven't yet mentioned. The 'Family Mart' convenience store closed on 31st October. That will probably come as a bit of a shock to lots of folk. That left Zao Onsen without a convenience store, but not for long... a 'Lawson' convenience store will be opening up just across the road nearby on 7th December. They are busy-busy getting that sorted right now. So we will be 'with convenience store' once again, for all your onigiri rice-ball needs! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 29cm Posted on Sunday 19th November 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Here's a quick update on the conditions in Furano. Soon after yesterday's report the snow changed to rain, and it rained moderately through the afternoon. This has had some impact on the lower slopes but the upper slopes look like they were hit with snow rather than rain. This morning the village awoke to some very light snow and freezing temperatures. The snow has continued through to the current time (midday), and although light, is accumulating nicely on the ground.
