- Yuzawa Now: Sunday 6th March 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 8cm Snowfall at base this season 1312cm Posted on Sunday 6th March 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was warm yesterday and more than a few people mentioned some itchy eyes... yellow sand or some early hayfever? We got rained on later in the day, but happily it did turn into snow overnight. This morning Kagura and Ishiuchi Maruyama are reporting 10cm of fresh snowfall, while Maiko reports 5-10cm. Strong winds are forecast for today along with more snow and unfortunately that means that some ski areas are closed or part closed: GALA Yuzawa is not going to be open at all today. The Tashiro Area of Kagura is closed and the central Kagura operations are limited. Mitsumata Ropeway is open. The Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway and top area is closed. The Gondola at Maiko Snow Resort is also closed and the lifts going to the top area might not open. Things should calm down by tomorrow. The good thing out of this is we might get a decent amount of fresh snow by tomorrow morning. Let's see... From Tuesday onwards there's quite a lot of clearer weather and warmth shown on the forecasts. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 430cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 0cm since last night Official snow depth: 350cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 305cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 340cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm since yesterday Official snow depth: Top: 450cm Base: 350cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 350cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 5-10cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 370cm (top) 220cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 380cm (top) 290cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 310cm (top) 260cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 320cm Yuzawa Kogen Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 0cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 400cm (top) 250cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 340cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 320cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Sunday 6th March 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1312cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 63 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 496cm reported on 21 days March 2022 snowfall 14cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 24cm Snowfall at base this season 1336cm Posted on Monday 7th March 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. The snow is back, continuing on and off during yesterday and then getting heavier at times during the night. Just measured 24cm of it. Ski areas that report are reporting the numbers you can see below... Kagura says it has got 50cm since yesterday. Nice! It is still snowing now, but due to ease off sometime this morning. Currently around 0C. Less wind today and ski areas should be opening. Beyond today there's no snow shown as likely on the weekly forecast, with a much bigger chance of clearer skies, sunshine and warming temps. By the weekend we might see temps hitting double digits in town during the daytime. ----- Kagura have announced that from 19th March the top Number 5 pair lift will be open until 2pm. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1336cm Posted on Friday 11th March 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday was a really bright day, but at times the skies looked more white/silver than blue. We have mostly blue sky this morning, with earlier cloud mostly dispersing. It's nice and bright and about 3C as of 8:30am. A high of at least 10C is expected early afternoon in town. Tomorrow should be sunny and similarly mild. Sunday and Monday are due to be warmer still but with more cloud around - and probably some rain from later in the day (perhaps only from evening/night). By Wednesday of next week, temperatures should be on the way down from these highs once again. We might even get some light snow later in the week, with a better chance of that happening at higher elevations. Hopefully we will get to see more fresh snow on the ground in town before the season is over. ----- Just realised - for what is the first time this year (that I can remember), I haven't reached out to put the heater on this morning. ----- GALA Yuzawa GALA Yuzawa plans to be open until Thursday 5th May Official snow depth: 450cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Ishiuchi Maruyama plans to be open until Sunday 3rd April Official snow depth: 340cm Iwappara Iwappara plans to be open until Sunday 27th March Official snow depth: 295cm Joetsu Kokusai Joetsu Kokusai plans to be open until Sunday 3rd April Official snow depth: 330cm Kagura Kagura (Mitsumata) plans to be open until Sunday 22nd May Kagura (Tashiro) plans to be open until Thursday 5th May Official snow depth: Top: 450cm Base: 350cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Kandatsu plans to be open until Sunday 17th April Official snow depth: 340cm Maiko Snow Resort Maiko plans to be open until Sunday 3rd April Official snow depth: 360cm (top) 220cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Hakkaisan plans to be open until Monday 21st March Official snow depth: 370cm (top) 270cm (base) Naeba Naeba plans to be open until Sunday 10th April Official snow depth: 310cm (top) 260cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden NASPA Ski Garden plans to be open until Sunday 3rd April Official snow depth: 310cm Yuzawa Kogen Yuzawa Kogen plans to be open until Sunday 27th March Official snow depth: 360cm (top) 240cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Yuzawa Nakazato plans to be open until Sunday 3rd April Official snow depth: 320cm Yuzawa Park Yuzawa Park plans to be open until Sunday 27th March Official snow depth: 310cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Friday 11th March 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1336cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 64 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 496cm reported on 21 days March 2022 snowfall 38cm reported on 3 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. There is some fresh snow to report this morning! Here's what is being reported by ski areas: Kagura: 3cm Maiko Snow Resort: 1-3cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 1cm There has been just a light dusting in places around town, but right now it's either raining slightly or snowing lightly as you go higher up (or just a bit damp and cloudy). A high of about +5C is expected this afternoon in town and we're probably not going to avoid rain. BUT hopefully that will be snow by tomorrow morning. It's hard to say what is going to happen though as it will just depend on how cold it can get. We'll just have to see. Stronger winds are expected later this afternoon. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1338cm Posted on Thursday 31st March 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday was fine, bright, sunny and warm. The snow has retreated a bit more around town areas - there's still around 1m or so of snow in the field behind my place, though. I saw lots of big diggers yesterday trying to break up the snow in some places, in an effort to get it to melt quicker. It's cloudy this morning. No rain just now, but we might get some this morning. Doesn't look like it will be much though, thankfully. It won't be as warm today and tomorrow will be colder still. In fact, some areas might get some fresh snowfall tonight. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 308cm Posted on Wednesday 31st January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here. Such beautiful clear blue skies yesterday! Though, warm, too (up to around 6C in town). Let me pull out one of my well-used lines... what a stunning mountain backdrop we have here in Hakuba! Amazing. Anyway, I had a blast and I'm sure lots of others did too. I am posting a very early morning report today, as I have to get myself over to Nagano station to pick up a few visiting friends from Australia. (Check out the early morning images below, from around 7am. Very cool). It’s a pretty easy one to prepare, though, as it’s probably going to be another fine (and mild after a cold start) morning, though we do have some cloud early morning. Some forecasts tell us to expect a cloudy afternoon and perhaps precipitation. The numbers below are not all updated as it is too early, but there will be no fresh and the snow depth numbers probably haven’t changed much. I hope there might be some fresh snow to report by tomorrow and it certainly looks like it is going to be colder than the last few days (which have been warmer than we would like). --------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: Upper: 0cm Official snow depth: Upper: 240cm Toomi: 110cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall (overnight): Upper: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth: Top: 240cm Base: 100cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall: Upper: 0cm Official snow depth: Top: 195cm Base: 125cm Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: Kurobishi: 0cm Usagidaira: 0cm Top of Riesen quad: 0cm (social media) Nakiyama: 0cm Official snow depth: Kurobishi: 235cm Usagidaira: 148cm Nakiyama: 65cm Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Reported snowfall: Mountain Side: 0cm Village Side: 0cm Official snow depth: Mountain Side: 170cm Village Side: 100cm Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: 225cm Jigatake Reported snowfall: 0cm Official snow depth: 110cm Kashimayari Official snow depth: 130cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth: Upper: 216cm Lower: 43cm White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth: 110cm --------------- Total snowfall accumulation this season so far (in upper areas) [The information below originates from the ski areas themselves, it is being checked and updated manually every report from public Hakuba Valley sources] ABLE Hakuba Goryu: 728cm Hakuba 47: 487cm Hakuba Happo-one: 625cm Hakuba Cortina: 516cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort: 566cm --------------- Night skiing Floodlit night skiing is available at these ski areas during the 2023-2024 season (subject to change) ABLE Hakuba Goryu: daily until late March (6pm-9:30pm); Toomi Hakuba Cortina: on Saturdays in January and February, 11th February, 23rd February (5pm-9pm) Jigatake: on Fridays and Saturdays in January and February (5:30pm-9pm) Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Wednesday 31st January 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 308cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 33 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 35cm (8th January) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 93cm reported on 13 days January 2024 snowfall 187cm reported on 16 days February 2024 snowfall 0cm Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. - Yuzawa Now: Sunday 29th January 2023
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 38cm Snowfall at base this season 538cm Posted on Sunday 29th January 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. And what a fine morning it is early on. There's an impressive amount of fresh snow since yesterday. We are measuring 38cm here in Yuzawa, with 42cm measured to the north of Ishiuchi. Kagura is reporting 60cm of snow since yesterday and Maiko is reporting 40cm. (Commonly asked question: why don't more ski areas report new snowfall every day? Good question. And, it is a mystery. Rather, they all update their much less meaningful (on a day to day basis) snow depth numbers. Maiko Snow Resort almost always reports a new snowfall number. Kagura usually report it too on, though not on their website (doh). Yuzawa Kogen and Ishiuchi Maruyama sometimes report it. But, unfortunately, most choose not to, which we feel is a shame...) OK, back to the weather! It was snowing earlier on but at the moment as this report is being written there is quite a lot of blue sky appearing and sunshine too. Beautiful. We have done well for snow over the last 5 or 6 days. We are enjoying a good period, for sure. And it looks like there is more snow on the way too over the coming week, and it should generally remain cold too. --------------- Ski area information for Sunday 29th January 2023 Ski areas in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region (listed in alphabetical order). - Yuzawa Now: Saturday 3rd December 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 1cm Posted on Saturday 3rd December 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We got the first snow of the season falling in town yesterday. It didn't last long and in many places it didn't stick for long, but there was a thin layer of snow in places around town. Just slightly above Yuzawa town centre at NASPA Ski Garden there was a few cm of snow on the ground. I think the report just about deserves to commemorate that snow with 1cm in todays report. There's no word from Kagura yet this morning. [11am update: they have announced there will be no opening tomorrow (Sunday)]. Today we have blue skies and bright sunshine and it will be a fairly mild day. ---------- Ready to open when there is enough snow - Joetsu Kokusai - Kagura (via Mitsumata) Friday 16th December 2022 - Ishiuchi Maruyama - Maiko Snow Resort Saturday 17th December 2022 - GALA Yuzawa - Iwappara - Kagura (via Tashiro) - Kandatsu Snow Resort - Naeba - Nakazato Snow Wood - Yuzawa Kogen - Yuzawa Nakazato Friday 23rd December 2022 - Muica Snow Resort - NASPA Ski Garden Saturday 24th December 2022 - Chateau Shiozawa - Hakkai Sanroku - Ipponsugi - Muikamachi Hakkaisan - Yuzawa Park Late December 2022 - Mt Granview Confirmed as not opening for the 2022-2023 season - Ishiuchi Hanaoka - Itsukamachi Yuzawa Now 2022-2023 season Data as of Saturday 3rd December 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 1 day Most snowfall observed in 1 day 1cm (3rd December) November 2022 snowfall 0cm December 2022 snowfall 1cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. It's raining down in town, quite heavily at times, but let's quickly move on to the more exciting news! It is snowing up at Kagura and that ski area is opening this morning. The ski area is reporting 5cm of fresh snowfall on the ski run that is opening this morning. Forecasts are starting to look more promising with snow due on the mountains today, and then hopefully down to town around Sunday. ---------- Planned Kagura operations today: Ski course: - Kagura main slope - The slope is about 1500m in length and 30m wide Lifts: - Mitsumata Ropeway (8:30am – 4:30pm) - Mitsumata Number 1 quad (8:30am – 4:15pm) - Mitsumata Number 2 pair lift (8:45am – 4:00pm) - Kagura Gondola (8:45am – 3:30pm) - Kagura Number 1 quad (9:00am – 3:00pm) All lifts apart from the Kagura Number 1 quad lift are used to get to and from the open area. Getting to the open slope: Mitsumata Ropeway > Mitsumata quad lift > Mitsumata pair lift > Gondola > Kagura quad lift > Hurray! Getting back when finished: Kagura Gondola > Mitsumata pair lift > Mitsumata quad lift > Mitsumata Ropeway Note that a bit of walking is required between the lifts at Mitsumata. The ski area is offering a 'carry service' where they take your ski/board gear up to the open area while you ride the lifts. Skiing or snowboarding on the Mitsumata summer ‘snow mats’ is not allowed - the only ski run open will be the Kagura main slope. ---------- Opening today! - Kagura (via Mitsumata) Ready to open when there is enough snow - Joetsu Kokusai Friday 16th December 2022 - Ishiuchi Maruyama - Maiko Snow Resort Saturday 17th December 2022 - GALA Yuzawa - Iwappara - Kagura (via Tashiro) - Kandatsu Snow Resort - Naeba - Nakazato Snow Wood - Yuzawa Kogen - Yuzawa Nakazato Friday 23rd December 2022 - Muica Snow Resort - NASPA Ski Garden Saturday 24th December 2022 - Chateau Shiozawa - Hakkai Sanroku - Ipponsugi - Muikamachi Hakkaisan - Yuzawa Park Late December 2022 - Mt Granview Confirmed as not opening for the 2022-2023 season - Ishiuchi Hanaoka - Itsukamachi Yuzawa Now 2022-2023 season Data as of Thursday 8th December 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 1 day Most snowfall observed in 1 day 1cm (3rd December) November 2022 snowfall 0cm December 2022 snowfall 1cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. - Yuzawa Now: Thursday 15th December 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 4cm Posted on Thursday 15th December 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. So we were definitely expecting snow yesterday. We did eventually get some snow, but it was... disappointing. Rather than a good old snow country style snowstorm, it only brought us several cm and not enough for ground cover. Kagura is reporting 2cm of snow 'since yesterday'. They also have enough snow to expand operations so you can now ski from the top of the Kagura quad lift right back down to Mitsumata (with a ride on the Mitsumata Number 2 lift in the middle of that). That's good to hear. Snow is still there on the forecasts into early next week. For the moment, it is mostly cloudy with some blue sky and about 2C in town. Maiko Snow Resort was hoping to open tomorrow. They are reporting 20cm of snow on upper areas, but that they will not be able to open tomorrow. Basically, they will open as soon as there is enough snow. Similar with Ishiuchi Maruyama though they will be opening the gondola for sightseeing. GALA Yuzawa will be making an announcement regarding their planned Saturday opening sometime today. There should be more ski area news to report tomorrow. --------------- The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. Please note that details can change quickly, especially at the beginning of the season, and official information may take a bit longer to update. All information is subject to change. Kagura (via Mitsumata) Part open Lifts: - Mitsumata Ropeway (from 8:00am on weekdays) - Mitsumata Number 1 quad - Mitsumata Number 2 pair lift - Kagura Gondola - Kagura Number 1 quad Courses: - Kagura main slope - Technical course - Gondola course - Family course - Gondola Line course Official snow depth: - Top: 60cm - Base: 30cm Notes: All lifts apart from the Kagura Number 1 quad lift are used to get to and from the open area. A bit of walking is required between the lifts at Mitsumata. The ski area is offering a 'carry service' where they take your ski/board gear up to the open area while you ride the lifts. The only ski run open is the Kagura main slope. --------------- Planned opening dates for other ski areas Ready to open when there is enough snow - Ishiuchi Maruyama - Joetsu Kokusai - Maiko Snow Resort Saturday 17th December 2022 - GALA Yuzawa - Iwappara - Kagura (via Tashiro) - Kandatsu Snow Resort - Naeba - Nakazato Snow Wood - Yuzawa Kogen - Yuzawa Nakazato Friday 23rd December 2022 - Muica Snow Resort - NASPA Ski Garden Saturday 24th December 2022 - Chateau Shiozawa - Hakkai Sanroku - Ipponsugi - Muikamachi Hakkaisan - Yuzawa Park Late December 2022 - Mt Granview Confirmed as not opening for the 2022-2023 season - Ishiuchi Hanaoka - Itsukamachi Yuzawa Now 2022-2023 season Data as of Thursday 15th December 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 4cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 2 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 3cm (15th December) November 2022 snowfall 0cm December 2022 snowfall 4cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. - Yuzawa Now: Friday 16th December 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 8cm Posted on Friday 16th December 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. First of all, snow. It was raining and then snowing last night, and it is snowing now. There is just a few cm on the ground around town, and Kagura is reporting 3cm of fresh snowfall this morning. So it has been another modest showing - and not what we expect and need. For now. A number of ski areas were planning on opening today and tomorrow. Here's where we stand with them. The following ski areas have confirmed that they will be (part) open from tomorrow: - Kagura (via Tashiro) - Naeba Naeba plan to have their Number 2 gondola moving along with the top Takenokodaira pair lift. No details to report from Tashiro just yet. The following ski areas plan to open from tomorrow but have not yet made any announcement, so status is unclear: - Kandatsu Snow Resort - Yuzawa Kogen - Nakazato Snow Wood Maiko and Ishiuchi were hoping to open from today, but that is not happening. (Maiko are now saying that Sunday will be the earliest). GALA Yuzawa have announced that they will not be opening on Saturday or Sunday, so the earliest opening for GALA is Monday. Yuzawa Nakazato have also delayed their opening. So those ski areas are now on the 'open as soon as possible' list. When can we expect heavy snow to kick things off? Well, the forecasts for Sunday and Monday are looking good. Fingers crossed! ------------------ 2pm update Naeba is planning on opening tomorrow morning (Prince Number 2 Gondola and Takenokodaira pair lift, with the run by the pair lift open). The Tashiro Area of Kagura will also be open. However, there are no confirmed details yet explaining what lifts/courses will be available there. All of the other ski areas hoping to open this weekend have announced delays to opening - and will not be open tomorrow.
