- Myoko Now: Tuesday 16th February 2021
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 1184cm Posted on Tuesday 16th February 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Lots of talk on the news about the snow coming in from today kept your writer waking up way too much last night (that wind started to pick up after 3 am, with several big blasts that drew me to the windows). Fortunately the snow only started falling seriously around 7, so no snow clearing to accomplish yet. Looks like the 18th could be the peak for snowfall.... Happy to see it, though after losing snowpack during the warm weather and rain (the more honest of our resorts are reporting something like 20-30cm less snowpack than yesterday). This is really the season for good snowfall, but some pretty warm spells in between. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 671cm Posted on Friday 12th February 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Just a little snowfall to report during the day yesterday, the resort itself saying there was 4-5cm on the upper Yamabiko and Uenotairs areas. Sunny skies with some thin cloud lingering as we approach 9am on this Friday morning. That's what we have forecast for the day along with mild temperatures, high of around 5C or 6C in the village. Tomorrow will be warmer still. Some forecasts seem to be showing the chance of a cloudy day, but local forecasts all point to a 'full on sunny' kind of day. The fine weather will probably bring a lot of people out and about. Don't worry, fresh powder fans. It'll be back to snow and plunging temps once again by mid week next week. I'm just going to enjoy what we got, while we got it! The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning. After what turned out to be a bit of a snowy windy morning yesterday, it later settled down. This morning it is a cold start but clear skies - and going to be milder. As said in previous reports, Japan is set to have a warm weekend of calm weather conditions; us included. Sunday in particular will be rather warm... as high as +6C at base perhaps? I imagine quite a few people turning up for the weekend. Back to snow around Tuesday, folks. Remember the face coverings and all of that. And hope some of you reading this can come to have some fun time. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 336cm Posted on Thursday 11th February 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . The forecasted sunny spells have yet to arrive, but, hopefully later on (currently foggy down to base albeit the bottom of the Zao Ropeway appears to be clearer). It is still snowing lightly after a modest gain overnight and is supposed to continue during the day but without really adding anything, especially if the anticipated winds higher up occur during the day. Snow quality is fine and light given that it is still pretty cold. This is forecasted to change tomorrow with a bright day and temperatures at zero warming up overnight. The days through Sunday should see sun with warmer temperatures throughout (at least the ground shouldn't freeze to ice until after the holiday weekend). - Hakuba Now: Thursday 11th February 2021
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 8cm Snowfall at base this season 360cm Posted on Thursday 11th February 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Clouds are clearing this morning and even over the last 30 minutes or so as I have been putting this report together there is more blue sky opening up and the sun is breaking through more and more. It's going to be getting rather mild over the next few days and there's a good amount of sunshine on the forecasts. Just how mild/warm it gets remains to be seen but it looks like the whole of Japan is on for an unseasonably warm run of days. A return to more winter like conditions and fresh snow is due to arrive early week. Some interesting numbers this morning. Happo-one reports 10cm at lower Nakiyama and upper Kurobishi areas... and 42cm at Usagidaira. That last number seems somewhat out of step with other numbers both from Happo and other ski areas, but I'm curious to explore! As you can see below ski areas are 15-25cm on their upper area this morning. I have 9cm to report to you from base. Wind is unfortunately affecting top lifts at Happo at the time of writing, though the gondola is moving. Should be a fine day. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: - Kurobishi: 10cm - Usagidaira: 42cm - Nakiyama: 10cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 305cm - Usagidaira: 243cm - Nakiyama: 90cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall: - Summit: 20cm - Base: 10cm Official snow depth: - Top: 315cm - Base: 140cm Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: - Upper: 25cm - Iimori: ?cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 325cm - Iimori: 130cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall: - Summit: 15cm - Base: 10cm Official snow depth: - Top: 320cm - Base: 185cm Tsugaike Kogen Reported snowfall: - Summit: 20cm Official snow depth: - Top: 309cm - Base: 90cm Hakuba Iwatake Official snow depth: - Top: 220cm - Base: 70cm Kashimayari Official snow depth: - 230cm Sanosaka Official snow depth: - Top: 190cm - Base: 110cm Hakuba Now 2020-2021 season Data as of Thursday 11th February 2021 Total snowfall at base so far 360cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 39 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 32cm (17th December) November 2020 snowfall 0cm December 2020 snowfall 150cm reported on 12 days January 2021 snowfall 165cm reported on 19 days February 2021 snowfall 45cm reported on 8 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa on this national holiday. Just a little snowfall overnight with 10+cm being reported on the upper areas by the ski area. Looks like light snow is still happening up there but it's clearer lower down and just cloudy conditions are on the forecast for today. Sounds like there might be a blowing wind on the mountain too. From tomorrow we will have a few days of clearer, sunnier and calm weather conditions. It is also going to get mild, probably unseasonably so. Reassuringly, there's fresh snow due on the other side of it, around Tuesday-Wednesday. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning. It is a national holiday here in Japan but the snow isn't easing off just yet. Though, for us, not as much to report this morning just 20cm or so at base and the resort itself reporting 34cm. Tomorrow very likely will be clearer with sun forecast and the weekend is going to be unseasonably mild for most (all?) of Japan. After today the next snow is due from around Tuesday. The weather is clearly changing as we get the report ready to go. The wind was coming in from the WSW earlier, but we have fog rolling in from the sea (and the north) and down the valley below Mt.
