Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 132cm Posted on Sunday 19th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The snow has picked up again this morning. Nice, a bit unexpected (it feels like we don't get a lot of consecutive snow days) and helping those ski areas as they open. Not a huge amount of snow overnight, but the plows did run early in the morning. I wondered if it was a bit of an early-season practice run; a lot of times the city (versus prefectural) streets don't get plowed until 30cm or more fall. Or something like that. It's cold, too. Got to about -9° at 10pm last night, and a cold morning. Also good, especially considering how much the temperature has been dancing around. And ski areas are starting to open, so time for me to give you the latest information and think about making a few turns myself! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Hello from Shiga Kogen. Things are much calmer this morning. Calming down since the afternoon yesterday. We have been left with some really nice snow and a good cover across the mountains too. While Shiga Kogen is still quite a way from being fully open, more is opening up now. Basically Okushiga Kogen along with Yokoteyama/Kumanoyu (both extreme points of the area) are almost all open with the Yakebitaiyama-Ichinose area part open. Still a few parts in the central area yet to open but they should be going by Christmas. As everyone knows, of course, Santa likes to ski all of Shiga Kogen on Christmas Day. We are actually due more snow later today but perhaps some sun beyond that with more snow around Wednesday. Sun is great, but regular snow please. And low temps! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . We had some more snow during the day yesterday. The ski area was reporting an extra 15cm on the top areas by 3pm and another 10cm this morning... so that's 25cm since yesterday morning. And there has been a good 10cm down low too. Wind disrupted the gondola in the afternoon and there were a few breaks in the clouds at times. Snow has eased off for this morning and it's a very fine one to be out skiing and snowboarding, if you are able to do so. And there are a few more lifts now officially open - from this morning the Hikage Gondola, Hikage triple and Nagasaka lifts are now operating. The below list has been updated. We are going to get some sun today but it should remain fairly cold (it's a cold start to the morning), and snow is due on the forecast over the coming week. We will see a gradually opening up as long as we get more snow coming on. The only ski area in the region not part open now is Jigatake in Omachi. (Sanosaka is sitting this season out). • Niseko Now: Saturday 18th December 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 32cm Snowfall at base this season 172cm Posted on Saturday 18th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here There's lots of fresh snow to report to you this morning. No faffing about on this Saturday morning! Ski areas are reporting up to 50cm on the slopes and I can report just over 30cm down at base. It is very cold too and wind does not seem to be much of an issue. This morning conditions will surely be the best they have been so far this season. From this morning there are a bunch of lifts and courses that are opening for the first time this season, including the Hirafu Gondola and the Village Express lifts. I have updated the below list as best I can so, please check that. We're still not fully open but it's good to see more terrain available and that good new fresh layer across the mountain. Night skiing starts at Annupuri and Village from today. And on that subject... ----- I had previously mentioned in the reports that there is no night skiing at Niseko HANAZONO. That was of course true... until this season. For whatever reason the change this season had slipped through and the old information had remained on my report. Sorry, totally my mistake. So, yes, this season Niseko HANAZONO does plan to be open for night skiing. The official times for the night skiing being 4:30pm until 7:00pm. Apparently, it's the gondola that will be open for night skiing. Just to make things a bit more complicated: they have delayed the opening for today, so the planned opening for night skiing will not be tonight. ----- Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa base: -11℃, 40cm snowfall in 12h, light snowstorm. Moiwa700m: -9℃, 40cm new snow on the slopes with 50cm snowdrifts. Coastal data Benkei cape: N18m/s, Kamui cape NNW14m/s, 1004hPa, 2.5m waves. Annupuri 800m: -11℃, 70cm new snow on the course with random 100+cm snowdirfts. The wintery pressure distribution has brought heavy snowfall, however the snowpack is still thin and off-piste riding is still not suitable. There’s a 40cm thick corn snow layer above the ground, and today’s snowdrift layer on top hasn’t stabilized yet. 60cm surface slab avalanches are likely to occur in open steep slopes and knolls. Better make conservative decisions today. The wind is expected to calm down tomorrow and the snowdrifts should stabilize by then. Most accidents occur during stormy conditions. A long season await ahead, stay prudent and make conservative decisions. The winter seems to have finally started. Have a nice day. ----- Planned ski area operations: Saturday 18th December 2021 The below information is manually checked each morning and believed to be correct at time of report. • Myoko Now: Saturday 18th December 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 60cm Snowfall at base this season 122cm Posted on Saturday 18th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . An exciting 24 hours, with all of the news stations telling us how much snow and wind we were likely to get, and then dropping temperatures and a fairly dramatic sky as the clouds began shooting up over the peaks. Lots of wind all night, so the snow depths are pretty variable depending on wind exposure. Oh, yeah, and 60cm of snow at base level, which is nice (and why I'm later than I planned — early season snow clearing always takes longer than we expect....Plugged chutes on snow blowers, forgetting how to plow, that kind of thing) Several of the ski areas were supposed to open last week or today; looks like this nice base will let some of them send out the snow cats to pack the snow down, and open tomorrow (see listings below for more info!) Akakura Kanko: Scheduled to open tomorrow, with the Myokokogen Sky Cable Gondola and No. 5 lift running. Not reporting temperature or snow depth yet. Akakura Onsen: 45cm, -2° Planning to open tomorrow Alpen Blick Snow Resort Scheduled to open today, but no new info yet....
