  • Myoko Now: Wednesday 26th January 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 910cm Posted on Wednesday 26th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Another early report today; I'm going snowshoeing. The weather reports are for snow (actually, they said rain, but I'm hoping that's down below), but it's partly cloudy now with the sun shining through at times. Nice contrast with some dark clouds, a little fog in the valleys up on the mountain. Pretty dramatic morning. Snow is definitely coming, though, and for several consecutive days. I got my rest from snow clearing, so bring it on! • Hakuba Now: Wednesday 26th January 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 379cm Posted on Wednesday 26th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . So what do we have today. Well, early morning it was cloudy with some light snow falling in places, but as it approaches 9am there's an increasing amount of blue sky around and the sun is out. It is turning into a fine morning. Like yesterday, it is going to be a relatively mild day with temperatures venturing into low + numbers. The only snow being reported by ski areas is 5cm on the Usagidaira area of Happo-one and 3cm over at Hakuba Cortina. Oh hold on. 47 are reporting 5cm on their social media but not on their website. I think in some cases they can only go with 0cm or 5cm, so if it's 1cm or 2cm... that gets rounded down to become 0cm. (That is a guess based on observations checking things every day for many years. I'd love to know how it works in each case. Nerd alert). ----- Total snowfall accumulation this season so far [*upper areas] [As reported by official sources at time of this report] Hakuba Goryu: 611cm Hakuba 47: 565cm Hakuba Happo-one: 515cm Hakuba Cortina: 665cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort: 655cm ----- Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: - Upper: 0cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 330cm - Toomi: 165cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall: - Summit: 0cm - Lower: 0cm Official snow depth: - Top: 320cm - Base: 185cm Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: - Kurobishi: 0cm - Usagidaira: 5cm - Nakiyama: 0cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 345cm - Usagidaira: 210cm - Nakiyama: 125cm Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Reported snowfall: - Mountain Side: 0cm - Village Side: 0cm Official snow depth: - Mountain Side: 190cm - Village Side: 90cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort Reported snowfall: - Upper: 0cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 310cm - Lower: 110cm Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: - 320cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall (24 hours): - Summit: 3cm - Lower: 3cm Official snow depth: - Top: 313cm - Base: 206cm Hakuba Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Wednesday 26th January 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 379cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 33 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 54cm (14th January) November 2021 snowfall 29cm reported on 4 days December 2021 snowfall 130cm reported on 12 days January 2022 snowfall 220cm reported on 17 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Good morning from a very quiet Zao. It is cloudy with patches of sun here and there, mostly in than out and it as I'm is likely to be like this all day. It is bright though and very crisp and clear. The slopes are a mixed bag. Although groomed, they are strewn with a modest amount of powder with some areas more than others (and very nice too). Otherwise they are hard compacted and running very fast. So, all in all, combos around. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Hey, I thought it was supposed to be nice out today! Instead we have tiny ice crystals falling, which translates into a gray, foggy morning. Visibility is actually going down at the moment; hope it brightens up a bit during the day. Maybe if it were nicer snow, too; some nice big white snowflakes would be fun.... Oh, well, it's still snow, and it's staying fairly cold (a bit warmer than yesterday), so we really can't complain about a bit of reduced visibility. That might delay some lifts (I noticed it is delaying top lifts at Happo). There's just a dusting(+) of snow to report and the only ski areas posting any new cm this morning is Cortina (3cm) and Goryu (2cm)... others are going with 0cm. Light snow has been lingering down in base areas but it feel like that is going to totally stop sooner than later. We might even get some sun later on in the day today. It's -3C right now. A nice end to the latest storm cycle. Kind of glad to have a break in clearing snow, too. You get that much snow and, if you have a few places to keep under control, you can feel like you're constantly just barely staying ahead of buried windows and overloaded roofs (see yesterdays report). Rested lifts today: Skyline connecting pair, Challenge pair, Utopia pair, Nagasaka quad, Karasawa pair. Pretty much all open apart from Yunomine A, Grand Prix and Kamoshika. Hey it's the weekend in January. Peak season and usually very busy. I wonder how many people will be here. With covid looming on the news, I have heard of groups being cancelled and the like. I feel generally people are just going on with their lives, perhaps less concerned than they have been in previous 'waves', but still being careful. Naski is out and looking very green and cheerful (as always). Lets hope everyone else can keep that way. • Hakuba Now: Saturday 22nd January 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 376cm Posted on Saturday 22nd January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. It's a very cold early Saturday morning, the sun is out and we have beautiful blue skies. There's some cloud around, but it's that kind that adds to the atmosphere and feel of the morning. No ski areas reporting any snow since yesterday, but like I said it has stayed cold and conditions should be great this morning. (The 1cm I report this morning is from early yesterday morning, post report). Tomorrow should be more cloudy and looking at the forecast for the coming week, it looks like it will be generally calm with a bunch of cloud and sun at times. Not a whole lot of snow on there for the moment. We got lots to play in though, so time to enjoy the conditions we have. 47PARKS at Hakuba 47 re-opens today. I am hearing of various group lessons and such being cancelled at the moment. That is all due to the annoying covid situation. Still, the car parks seem to be pretty lively this morning... Wrap up well, take care and have a good weekend wherever you are.
