- Myoko Now: Thursday 17th February 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 1356cm Posted on Thursday 17th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Got up early this morning expecting that I'd have to plow heaps of new snow, but there was very little overnight, and the snowfall really only began around 6:30. So only five centimeters to report, but only up to the time of snow poking. It's falling pretty steadily now, maybe some 2-3cm/hour. It's a bit colder than the past few days, too, with an overnight low here at base level of about -7°C, and it's still -5°. We're lucky this year in that the snowpack temperatures have been quite stable, so there aren't a lot of layers forming within the snow and things have been pretty stable. Just 5cm being reported by the ski area about an hour ago on top, and I'd guess there's a bit more than that by now. - Hakuba Now: Thursday 17th February 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 18cm Snowfall at base this season 503cm Posted on Thursday 17th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It was snowing through the day yesterday and I reckon about 10-15cm on upper areas during the day. This morning there's more snow and ski areas are reporting the numbers in the list below. A good 15-20cm in lower areas and more than that higher up with Happo-one reporting 37cm at Usagidaira. Conditions should be really good out there. This morning there's still (light) snow falling (at the time of writing) but also some signs that the sun might be able to break through the clouds in places. But then again the forecast is for snow during the day today... so maybe not! (I'm thinking... not. I expect snow). The forecasts are looking good for more snow over the coming week too. Snow today into tomorrow morning and then quite a lot later Saturday onwards. If they are right it looks like we should be in for a very fine second half of February. Mild temperatures over the past few days, and we did have just a bit of rain yesterday afternoon around 4 which quickly turned to very sticky, adhesive snow.
