Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 7cm
Snowfall at base this season 929cm

Posted on Wednesday 16th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

A curious one today. There's a little snowfall down at base and up to 20cm on upper areas of the mountain, according to the ski area. Weather at the moment is a mix of cloud and blue sky and sunshine and happily it is a bit colder than it was yesterday. (I was ensconced in my place all afternoon and night and so I can't confirm if we got some rain but it was definitely quite mild at lunchtime).

We are expecting our snow later on and into tomorrow. Hopefully some larger numbers.

Fresh snowfall recorded by the ski area (since early yesterday morning):

- Yamabiko (1615m): 20cm

- Uenotaira (1407m): 15cm

- Hikage (660m): 3cm

- Nagasaka (616m): 3cm

- Karasawa (563m): ?cm

Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area):

- Yamabiko (1615m): 375cm

- Uenotaira (1407m): 330cm

- Hikage (660m): 290cm

- Nagasaka (616m): 280cm

- Karasawa (563m): 200cm

All courses apart from the following plan to be open:

- Yunomine A

Various info:

- Rested lifts today: Challenge pair, Utopia pair, Karasawa pair, Yunomine pair, Mizunashi triple.

- Subject to weather conditions all lifts that plan to be open should be ok.

- The top Yamabiko A-D courses close at 3:20pm until 27th March (at 3:10pm after that).
