Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 1356cm

Posted on Thursday 17th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Got up early this morning expecting that I'd have to plow heaps of new snow, but there was very little overnight, and the snowfall really only began around 6:30. So only five centimeters to report, but only up to the time of snow poking. It's falling pretty steadily now, maybe some 2-3cm/hour.

It's a bit colder than the past few days, too, with an overnight low here at base level of about -7°C, and it's still -5°.

We're lucky this year in that the snowpack temperatures have been quite stable, so there aren't a lot of layers forming within the snow and things have been pretty stable.
