A lot more wind this morning, but still not a huge amount of snowfall. It's been strange the last 24 hours, really, with blasts of snow and then a bit of clearing. The low pressure area over the Sea of Japan is no more, though, so the winds are coming straight in from the northwest now — the classic look for heavy snow in Myoko. Those winds, though are really variable, shifting around from northeast to northwest, sometimes fairly calm, at other times bringing huge clouds of snow out of the sugi (cryptomeria) trees. It's windy enough at moments that it could interrupt lift operations, although the gondola at Akakan, perhaps the most affected by wind, is not running today. Should be up on the weekend, however. Not beautiful snow today either, with lots of pretty big, heavy graupel (soft hail) balls coming down. Makes me think we might get some winter thunder, which often happens when we have a heavy fall of graupel (those bouncing little balls of snow can generate a lot of static electricity, it seems).
