Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 81cm Posted on Tuesday 23rd December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . There is good news to report today with fresh snow overnight that has accumulated to 5cm at village level. The new snow combined with recent snow making efforts means the resort has been able to open Spies Course, which means there are now two courses skiable from the top of the Ropeway to base level. The opening of Spies will be great news for intermediate skiers as it offers a wider and more mellow terrain than Sailer Course. The weather is cloudy with light winds increasing with elevation and temperatures around -11c at the top. There are light snow flurries at the moment but this look like it could change at anytime back to regular snow fall. We had a good 15cm of sticky snow and the base building begins for an end of month opener. Looks real promising to have enough base for the opening with more solid falls though out today. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 591cm Posted on Thursday 8th May 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Furano Ski Area is now closed for the season. It has been a long season from November through to May which has delivered some great skiing, especially for the lucky ones who get to spend the whole season here. February would usually be the absolute best month for snow but this year January turned out to be a pearler with amazing snow conditions throughout the month. While Furano is famous for it's blue sky days, these don't occur every day of the season. However Furano has the ability to deliver the snow but offer excellent visibility at the same time and this season I can't recall skiing in anything approaching whiteout conditions. The one thing that does stand out in this resort is that while the weather maybe good in terms of visibility, it is extremely cold (which is what keeps the powder in such great condition). If I had one piece of advice for anyone coming here it would be to shout yourself a new high quality pair of gloves to ward of the cold finger experience. As much as I love the winter and skiing, after months of snow I am happy to welcome the spring and onset of cherry blossoms which have just arrived in Furano. See you again after summer....
