Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido
New snowfall at base 15cm
Snowfall at base this season 170cm
Posted on Wednesday 7th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here.
Yesterday and overnight there has been around 15cm of new snow at village level. This time the snow is wet and heavy and is evidence that we narrowly missed a rain event. Normally this heavy snow would not be anything to celebrate but it is excellent for base building and is exactly what we required to cover some of the thinner patches that have been lurking around, particularly on Kitanomine. It is clear today with mainly high cloud at the moment, but conditions are forecast to change with 20cm of snow predicted for today and the snow expected to continue through until Monday. Winds will increase during the day to moderate. With all the new snow and winds only light right now, it looks like early morning will be the best time to get some turns in.
