As a result the ski area is closed today and will reassess conditions this evening. Temperatures this morning are back to wintery norms for this time of year. It is -5c in town and the high will stay below freezing. There has been some light snowfall with 2cm of accumulation on the ground at the bottom of the mountain. Further snow is expected through today but there is a strong chance of rain tomorrow. Kitanomine Zone closed. Furano Zone closed. • Shiga Kogen Now: Thursday 2nd December 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 62cm Posted on Thursday 2nd December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It is a beautiful morning in Shiga Kogen. It didn't start with these blue skies - rather, some snow falling. But the clouds are clearing and the sun is out. Colder than yesterday too thankfully. The Yakebitaiyama ski area is also now part open and more of Yokoteyama is operating as well. So it looks like there are now five individual areas of Shiga Kogen that are now part open. We might see some snow falling again on Saturday but apart from that the forecast for the coming weeks looks more sunny than snowy. Let us hope that the temperatures remain low. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here After a kind of gloomy stretch of warm and wet, I am happy to report that there is some fresh snow to report this morning. I have just measured 9cm and it definitely feels colder out. It is windy too. Great to see the snow back, but it does look like tomorrow is going to be milder once again and (I'll say it in a low voice) the chance of some more rain. Hopefully not, of course. Niseko Village ski area is still planning on opening from tomorrow. The Banzai Chair and Community Chair lifts are set to officially start the season. Yey! The latest Zao Now report can be found here . There is 40cm at base, and being a Sunday, locals are rolling in and the Zao Ropeway car park is nearly full. It continues to snow higher up and the Utopia slope is now also open. The ski area has decided to keep them open tomorrow too. Please do not be tempted to cross the rope barriers to come to the bottom (some have). If you've seen what it is like under the snow, there really isn't enough to ensure you don't go over some nasty stuff and either wreck your skis/board or have a nasty fall... • Hakuba Now: Sunday 28th November 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 29cm Posted on Sunday 28th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It is a beautiful Sunday morning here in Hakuba. Blue skies, sunshine and fresh snow. Can't ask for much more than that. (Well, apart from more fresh snow please... but that's a never-ending thing hey). There's a fair few cars around and I just saw quite a lot of people lining up for the Happo gondola too. The official Hakuba 47 site says 20cm of new snow on upper levels and 50cm on lower areas since yesterday. I think they've got those numbers the wrong way round - definitely not 50cm at base! Still, all sounds good. Happo and Goryu are both reporting 10cm. I have tried to get some information from Tsugaike Kogen about their possible opening but been frustrated at a lack of info. So I can't tell you anything about that. For the moment the choice is is Happo-one, Goryu and 47. (Less of Hakuba 47 will be open from tomorrow through Friday). This early snow has been every exciting but we can expect a few days of clearer skies now as well as higher temperatures. There may also be some rain around Tuesday. We must remember that it is still November and very early season and take it in our stride. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: - Kurobishi: -cm - Usagidaira: 10cm - Nakiyama: -cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: - - Usagidaira: 135cm - Nakiyama: - Lift & course info - Gondola, Panorama pair and Kokusai Number 3 lifts operating - Panorama run (800m) Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall: - Summit: 45cm - Base: 20cm Official snow depth: - Top: 140cm - Base: 20cm Lift & course info - All lifts plan to be open (apart from Line D, which only operates when the gondola is rested) - Most of the mid to upper areas plan to be open Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: - Upper: - - Toomi: - Official snow depth: - Upper: 85cm - Toomi: 20cm Lift & course info - Telecabin gondola, Alps Number 1 pair lift, Alps Number 3 pair lifts - Panorama course - Grand Prix - Super Hakuba Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Sunday 28th November 2021 Total snowfall at base so far 29cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 4 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 14cm (27th November) November 2021 snowfall 29cm reported on 4 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 15cm Posted on Sunday 28th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . I bring good news this Sunday morning. Not only further snow, but a confirmed opening date! Yes, Nozawa Onsen is now heading towards an official opening on Tuesday 30th November. They plan to have the Nagasaka Gondola and two Yamabiko quad lifts operating, the gondola starting at 8:45am. Yamabiko A, B, C, D and E courses will be available. Sounds great! They were talking about 50cm or so of snow up on those areas yesterday with the snow machines helping nature along. There has been more since then so conditions are probably going to be really quite decent. Always great to report that before we hit December. Slightly warmer temps are due over the next few days before a return to the chance of snow later in the week. Nozawa Onsen will open on Tuesday 30th November. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. And what a good morning it feels like too. There is a fresh layer of snow on the ground around village areas and it is continuing to snow. Hakuba 47 are reporting around 20cm on lower areas and about 30-40cm higher up. They are also starting up their lifts and lots of course area - for the moment just for this weekend. Beyond that... we'll see. Hakuba Goryu will start up their Alps Number 3 pair lift from today. Hakuba Happo-one are reporting 37cm of fresh snowfall on the Usagidaira area. The official snow depth up there now is 130cm. Very happy to be able to report these things in November! Beyond today the forecasts show that there will be break from this snowfall. But hopefully there is enough snow up on the mountains for the open ski areas to remain open in the coming week. This made me laugh. Good old Facebook. I try my best to avoid it as much as possible, but during the winter there are some Japanese information sources that require me to look. Anyway, one automated translation this morning is 'translating' the name of the ski area Hakuba Happo-one to... 'Hakuba Flirtatious Ridge ski resort'. I like that.
