Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 35cm Posted on Sunday 5th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Hello and welcome to the Sunday report. Another 10-15cm or so of new snowfall is being reported from around the ski areas (in upper areas) this morning. It's just a dusting really lower down at base areas, but enough for me to add 1cm. There are a lot of people lining up for the gondola at Happo-one this morning, keen to get in those early December turns. Lots of cloud around as of 8:30am but sunshine is likely today. It should remain chilly but temps are going to be warming up somewhat in this coming week. Let us hope not too much. Looks like we might be getting rained on as well over the next few days. The best place to escape that is probably at the top of the ski areas, where hopefully it might be snowing. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 50cm Posted on Sunday 5th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Well, there's some more fresh snow on the ground, and we're in the end run to the season openers, so times for a quick report! Snowed pretty nicely last night, although the fall really only continued for a few hours in the early evening. Here at the resort base there's about 20cm of heavy and wet white stuff on the ground. Looks nice, would make a nice base for more to come (but the weather is going to go back to sunny and warmer in the coming week, with a high-pressure cell now moving towards Japan from the middle of the Sea of Japan). When people ask, we always say look to Christmas Day for skiing; if we're lucky things will open earlier, but we're happy if we get a White Xmas. Not to be negative at all, just looking back on all the years here to let you know. So I will stick my snow-measurement boards out in the backyard to give you accurate, to-the-millimeter reporting very shortly; unfortunately, the automated weather station that was really useful for temperatures and wind needed some repair and, as it wasn't a Japan unit, had to find a new home. And the Japan-specific unit is very expensive! So later in the season.... As I am writing this the snow has started to fall at a faster rate which is good to see. Keep going please! We have seen it coming on the forecasts but the coming week is still looking very likely to bring us some mild temperatures and a mostly dry spell. And maybe quite a lot of sunshine too. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 98cm Posted on Saturday 4th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning from Niseko. So, after that limited opening of the Niseko Village ski area yesterday, today sees the other ski areas opening - including Niseko Moiwa (which is not part of the 'Niseko United' group). From today I will be checking and updating the details in the list below each morning, to the best of my abilities. Please remember that what I post is always going to be a snapshot of the time that I check the information. Of course, all ski areas operations are subject to change. I'll try to cover any other information in my text report. I'm not exactly sure what is going on at Hanazono at the start of the day. They show their two upper lifts as being open, but the posh new base lift is currently on hold. I can see on the webcam that it is now moving so perhaps that will open up soon. The Center Four quad at Hirafu is used as a transport to get to the open (Center) course. Changeable weather conditions this morning. As I write this report it has started to snow quite nicely but a little earlier it was clearer. Further down in town there's still some blue sky. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 95cm Posted on Friday 3rd December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Today is officially the first day of the ski season here, if you take that as being the day when the first ski lifts start up. Niseko Village is the first to open with the Community Chair and Banzai Chair lifts planned to be operating today. From tomorrow the other ski areas on the mountain all plan to be open. It looks like Hirafu will have their Ace Number 2 Center Four and Ace Number 3 pair lifts operating, with just the Center course available. Annupuri are planning on their gondola as well as the Jumbo Number 1 quad and Dream Number 1 quad lifts operating. With five courses open, there will be more terrain on offer than at Hirafu. Thankfully today is much calmer than yesterday. In less exciting news, we have had to endure a bit more rain. Best to get it out of the system early on, right? Hopefully some snow tomorrow. - Zao Now: Thursday 2nd December 2021
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 48cm Posted on Thursday 2nd December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . We're now into December. Can't make my mind up as the whether to say "already?" or " about time!". After a couple of days of miserable rain and distinctly warmer, last night saw a fresh 10cms so we're back to whiteness all around at base. My phone got a snow storm warning which seems to contradict the weather forecast which is showing a sunny day tomorrow but with snow (not a lot) into the weekend (but then another warm spell next week (: ). That said, the fog has come down and snowfall is picking up so we'll see. In the meantime, the Chuo slope is still open with the Utopia slopes only open on the weekend until the hoped-for full opening on the 11th.
