  • Hakuba Now: Monday 13th December 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 36cm Posted on Monday 13th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It's Monday morning so hello and welcome to a new week from here in Hakuba. So how did that weather turn out then? Well, the rain that we got did (sort of) turn into snow. Down at base we have just a dusting really. (I am being generous with that 1cm added to the report). The better news is that Hakuba 47 and Hakuba Goryu are both reporting 10cm of fresh snow on their upper areas. As I write this the lifts at Happo-one are on hold due to wind. Top lifts at 47/Goryu may also be affected. So it sounds like it is windy on the mountain. It's cloudy, there's light snow falling in places, but there is also some blue sky around and it feels like the clearer skies might win out, thought it should remain cold. Clearer, calmer and a bit milder weather is due back tomorrow. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: - Kurobishi: 0cm - Usagidaira: 0cm - Nakiyama: 0cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 85cm - Usagidaira: 67cm - Nakiyama: - Planned lift operations: - Adam Gondola - Panorama pair lift - Kokusai Number 3 pair lift - Alpen quad lift - Kurobishi Number 2 quad lift Planned course openings: - Panorama course - Usagidaira course - Kurobishi course Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall: - Summit: 10cm - Base: 0cm Official snow depth: - Top: 95cm - Base: 0cm Planned lift & course openings: - All scheduled lifts open (Line D usually only opens when the gondola is not operating) - Lower courses currently closed; upper courses open - Tree Riding Zones closed Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: - Upper: 10cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 95cm - Toomi: 20cm (really?!) The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Well, we have had snow. Not as much as we'd like but there's snow on the ground down to base. The ski area is reporting 5cm on the upper areas, though I'd guess there's more than that. Whatever. Anyway it should be snowing today but easing off so I doubt we can expect much more. Beyond today there's a few more days of that clearer kind of weather (it shouldn't be quite as warm as it has been) with cold and snow due back on Friday. That looks quite promising. • Myoko Now: Monday 13th December 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 12cm Snowfall at base this season 62cm Posted on Monday 13th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The forecast was for snow, and it is falling out there. Not terrifically hard or fast, but we do have a nice accumulation going (I waited until a little bit late in the morning to give the snow a good poke with the official ruler). Lotte Arai and Akakura Onsen had wanted to open on the 11th, but that didn't happen. Many others are scheduled for opening on the 18th, but to be honest I think that's unlikely. This snow is not going to last, and the temperature is going to go back up again, until we might see colder temps and some more snow this coming weekend. But that's not unusual; we usually tell people to look at Christmas as a more likely date with snow on the ground and skiers on the hill (and even then it can be really, really close to no white Christmas). The snowfall is picking up as I write this, though; nice to see some steady snowfall at any rate! A preview of good things to come? Akakura Kanko: Scheduled to open December 18 Akakura Onsen: Originally scheduled to open December 11; waiting for the snow! • Niseko Now: Monday 13th December 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 124cm Posted on Monday 13th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Hurray! After six days with no fresh snowfall to report, I have a nice layer of it to tell you about this morning. It was great to see it coming down again last night. I have measured 15cm of it and with more snow on the forecast things are looking and feeling more positive this morning. Even if the temperatures are in the negative. It sounds even better when I saw the 25cm of new snowfall that Hirafu seem to be reporting on their official report. Yey. It was a bit windy out there when I was out walking my toast and that may very well affect this morning. If that is the price to pay for a decent delivery of fresh snow, I think we are all prepared to accept that. (I need to post the report early this morning so apologies for not being able to report on the 8:30am situation). Having said all that, as I prepare to post this report there is some small areas of blue sky on show. So rather changeable conditions at the start of the day. ----- About the 'official snow depth' (and changes in those numbers) and 'official 24 hours snowfall' numbers that I post below. Sometimes they seem a bit odd and don't seem to 'add up' or be logical. There's all sorts of reasons for that. My advice: don't over-think on them. I'm just reporting what is on the official information each morning - as a bit of extra info to put out there, for your excite consideration. ----- Planned ski area operations: Monday 13th December 2021 The below information is manually checked each morning and believed to be correct at time of report. • Zao Now: Sunday 5th December 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 54cm Posted on Sunday 5th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Extra report! It is currently foggy at the top of the Chuo Ropeway but what it is like in the bowl I do not know, sometimes the same, other times not, but, as mentioned, clearer skies are on their way with - unfortunately - warmer weather. So we're crossing fingers for the official opening next weekend and shortly thereafter.
