- Hakuba Now: Wednesday 9th February 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 460cm Posted on Wednesday 9th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Early this morning there were some beautiful shades of pink and blue and now there is some cloud around the mountains but a lot of blue sky and sunshine. The only new snow being reported this morning is 4cm by Hakuba Cortina. I thought there might be some reported from other ski areas as it does seem to have been snowing in the dark, but no. There's a thin icy dusting thing going on the road outside my place. It's still keeping cold so with the good weather, spectacular scenery and good snow, it should be another very fine day. Currently forecasts are for cloud and some snow during the day tomorrow. ----- Total snowfall accumulation this season so far [*upper areas] [As reported by official sources at time of this report] Hakuba Goryu: 755cm Hakuba 47: 710cm Hakuba Happo-one: 623cm Hakuba Cortina: 843cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort: 712cm ----- Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall this morning: - Upper: 0cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 365cm - Toomi: 180cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall this morning: - Summit: 0cm - Lower: 0cm Official snow depth: - Top: 355cm - Base: 180cm Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall this morning: - Kurobishi: 0cm - Riesen: 0cm - Usagidaira: 0cm - Nakiyama: 0cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 380cm - Usagidaira: 230cm - Nakiyama: 130cm Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Reported snowfall this morning: - Mountain Side: 0cm - Village Side: 0cm Official snow depth: - Mountain Side: 200cm - Village Side: 95cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort Reported snowfall this morning: - Upper: 0cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 334cm - Lower: 120cm Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: - 360cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall (12 hours): - Summit: 4cm - Lower: 4cm Official snow depth: - Top: 367cm - Base: 248cm Hakuba Now 2021-2022 season Data as Wednesday 9th February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 460cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 43 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 54cm (14th January) November 2021 snowfall 29cm reported on 4 days December 2021 snowfall 130cm reported on 12 days January 2022 snowfall 228cm reported on 20 days February 2022 snowfall 73cm reported on 7 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. Another 10cm or so on upper levels since the early morning yesterday, most of that yesterday morning. We only really got a dusting down at base areas. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Geto Kogen. Yesterday it was snowing and this morning it's snowing. I'm not copy-pasting this, honest. Not one of the bigger numbers to report but still an impressive 30cm at base. More than double that up on the mountain, bringing the total snowfall for the season (as reported by the ski area on mountain) to close to 20m. With snow due today, it's going to break that barrier in time for the next report, I think. There should be a break in the snow for a few days from tomorrow. Courses open: All normal courses open. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Finally, a little break in the snowfall. Well, it is still snowing out there, and we're alternating between patches of blue skies and gray clouds that keep the white stuff coming down, but we have a day to try and get organized and dig out where roofs have dropped great piles of snow. Traffic was terrible all over the resort areas yesterday. I guess the plows also just got overwhelmed (and the guys do a pretty good job, to be fair). And, when it comes to an end, you kind of miss the excitement and energy of a huge snowstorm (my back muscles, though, will not miss the constant presence of a shovel handle; I'm not that creaky, but my back is sore). Should be a few degrees warmer today, but still not warm, really. Get that snow settled a bit, and backcountry should be pretty fun in a day or so, too! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . The huge snow has continued with the ski area reporting another 90cm on upper areas. When it snows like this it's truly awe-inspiring. Totally deep conditions out there this Monday morning, enough to easily get lost in. Know where you are going and be extra careful, is what Naski just told me. (After a few days break, Naski is out and smiling on the Hikage area this morning). The ski area is making a point of asking people not to venture out into strictly off-limits areas due to the danger.
