KlingKlang 1
Got a friend in Matsumoto, so I might be going up there a few times. Whats the best resorts nearby? Are there any? Or is it just best to head up to the likes of Hakuba?
Fattwins 0
Nozawa, Myoko, Norikura, Shiga Kogen, Its an hour or 2 from some of the biggest.
KlingKlang 1
I was thinking nearer than that, <30 mins, places that could be called local.
Ocean11 0
Check out my article on the Venus Line for places around there. I'm not sure how long it would take from Matsumoto to Echo Valley, but I think that's the best one around there. Norikura (not Hakuba Nori-chan) is within about 30 minutes of Matsumoto I think. Fattwins 0
That is pretty hard to find a big mountain near a real big city.
Ocean11 0
He's not asking for a big mountain, he's asking for a resort. When I worked in Matsumoto, my colleagues who lived there used to go to either Norikura or Royal Hill. It's really easy to get to Hakkers from there too though...
Fattwins 0
Yeah but when he says is it best to head to hakuba then... Second question what do you want to ski/do at your resort. That could narrow the field.
KlingKlang 1
Thanks. Norikura or Royal Hill - how many mins drive about are those places? What do we want to do? Ski and board! Really, Just have a half-day/ day out, nothing extreme.
Fattwins 0
Norikura will give you enough and the onsens are nice. But are they onesens? Norikura has hiking, a park, free parking at the top parking area, a few steep runs a few flat runs and a few trees off of the bubble, skiers left best.
Ocean11 0
They'd both be about an hour, maybe more on a good snow day. This topic is making me rather unhappy. I used to think a 40 minute drive to Echo Valley for a romp in the powder was a long drive ... " title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />
mattlucas 0
And if your up for it and have the gear the peak is a good hike above from what I hear at least.
