Can someone tell me what nigari is? There was just an item on the news about it being some kind of help in dieting. Looked like a liquid they put on food. Curious.

has something to do with how tofu is made. I think the makers have a disclaimer that there is no proof that it causes or other wise supplements fat loss. wakaranai.gif

Nigari is something from seawater. It is coagulant used for Tofu.

It was on the news yesterday, there is no proof and you may loose your weight because of Delhi belly caused by too much intake of Nigari.

Do you have to go on a diet, rach??

Very briefly - when common table salt sodium chloride is extracted from sea water, Nigari is the other residual salts (potassium, calcium etc I think) from the process.

As Slow said, it's main use has been as the coagulant in Tofu making - although many of the cheaply mass produced varieties use something less natural.

IMHumbleO, Best way to lose weight with Nigari, would be to substitute a calorie laden dinner with a whole tub of traditionally made tofu. \:\)
