In ancient Japan, the Emperor Tenno decreed that it was unlawful to kill any animal, keeping up with then in-vouge buddhist teachings regarding respect for life. That lasted for about 300 years, until a shogun (i think) revised it so people could eat fish and birds, but no land animals (that lasted another 300 years, although monks made rabbit an exception).

Even then, fish was consumed on a fairly modest basis.

Of course, this is just what i read, i could be wrong.

I love dolphins, been swimming with them many times when I lived in Hawaii. I think they were spinners?? We would ride around the island training for triathlons and when we came around to Waiamea bay countless times they were right up on shore in pods of like 30-50 of the little things. Sooooo cute and such cool creatures. I mean, who else besides humans has sex for pleasure? Dolphins! I hope in my next life Im a dolphin \:D lol.gif
