wendy-cake 0
Anyone ever tried it? An article on BBC at the moment about it, very interesting. Never heard of it before now.

Never heard of it before now. Was up in PNG a few years ago - lots of people chew the stuff and spit red crap all over the place. Would've liked to give it a go, but it stains teeth and gums. And, I don't think the lime they use is very good for the pearlies either. Betelnut is up there with chewing tobacco: a disgusting habit. If you're after a 'high', try drinking the high % alcohol beer up there - it's got a hit without being objectional.

kintaro 0
At my parents house in Hawaii there are some trees that apparently have beetlenut in them so every month or so a car full of micronesians stop by, politely ask if they can climb our tree and then do so. They seem so happy with their find. So one year I had to ask them if I could try. What they did was crush the beetlenut, blend it with some cigarette tobacco, wrap it in ti leaf and place it between the cheek and gums. I got a major buzz from it but never tried it again. indosnm 0
All over Indonesia they chew it. I tried it at the request of a village chief and it was disgusted! Terrible stuff. But made good gifts for the elders of all the villages that we stayed in.
