Iran is 4 times bigger than Iraq, with a more competent military. It is closely linked economically with Russia and China, two countries that America would be wise not to confront (think Russian oil, and Chinese servicing of US debt, without even getting into their potential combined military superiority). Attacking Iran will effectively lead to termination of oil supplies from the Persion Gulf - Iran won't be pumping it for the US, and they can easily cut Saudi supplies too. The effects on other countries' economies will also be devastating, so they won't be best pleased with the US either (a lot of Japan's oil and gas comes from Iran). The US is getting beaten and its military worn down in Iraq, a country that is now as much in Iran's pocket as America's.

For these reasons, I think that if America attacks Iran, they won't be a world power much longer (not that they really are any more anyway)...

How much rationality remains in US decision-making is hard to discern. And how far the populace and military would let the ahem, leadership, go down that road without turning on them is also an open question.

What d'you reckon?

Air Force Colonel Accused of Defacing Cars

DENVER - An Air Force Reserve colonel could face criminal charges for allegedly vandalizing cars at Denver International Airport bearing pro-Bush bumper stickers.

Lt. Col. Alexis Fecteau, director of operations for reserve forces at the National Security Space Institute in Colorado Springs, is believed responsible for defacing at least 10 parked vehicles between December and June, police spokesman Sonny Jackson said Tuesday.

Jackson said Fecteau is suspected of blacking out the Bush bumper stickers and then spray painting an expletive and the president's name on the vehicles.

Fecteau supervises 11 full-time and 30 part-time reservists at the institute, which is part of the Space Warfare Center at Schriever Air Force Base, said base spokesman Staff Sgt. Donald Branum.

"safely destroy". These people have rocks in their heads. Dishonesty and wrong thinking has become a way of life for them.
