mina2 6
Article in BBC today about snow sports being stress to wildlife: > Winter sports such as snowboarding, off-piste skiing and trekking are putting Alpine wildlife under stress, scientists have concluded. Researchers found that in areas of the Alps heavily used for sports, black grouse produced large amounts of a hormone indicating stress. Writing in the Royal Society's journal Proceedings B, they say these sports represent a new threat to wildlife. Climatic change is also affecting habitat for these birds. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6424489.stm

SerreChe 2
Yeah he always goes for scraps. Mountain crows clearly feast on skiers' dirty habits.
Curt 1
Is that a real live dog there SerreChe? (I hope I'm not offending your pet there ) I can't see too many animals benefiting from trees getting uprooted and ski lifts and courses being made!
Ezorisu 0
I'm surprised this hasn't come up before considering how long skiing has been around. Similar issues were levied against mountain biking soon after its inception.
SerreChe 2
Curt it was a real dog. It won the ugliest dog in the world contest for years running until it died. Amazingly ugly! You can get mugs, tee-shirts, etc on the net with its pic on it. Quite a celebrity it was. Scavengers benefit from scraps of food left by skiers on the slopes, but other than that not much benefit to the wildlife I guess.
