It's the road up to Sarukura, one of the start points for hiking up to Mt. Shirouma.

I'm not 100% sure but for the first month or so after it opens they only allow public transport up there (Buses/Taxis). There is a nice onsen (Obinata no yu) up there).

There is a lodge at the end of the road (summer only), but no hotels above the "G"

Hum...le spud, probably not available in winter.

There is the Obinata no yu hot spring just at the 322 icon but it's not available in winter they say because of deep snow which perhaps disable us to go deeper the 322?

All the better for banning snowmen, they are as much trouble as a hat full of arseholes.

 

Thanks for the info on that road. I was just playing with google maps and it jumped out at me as a unique feature on both the photo and topo map. Closed snowy roads can make excellent access paths into and out of valleys below sought after higher alpine areas.

 

ps - take a look at Fuji on the google maps photo image. It looks like it just erupted!
