SnowConnection 0
Ref. http://www.snowjapanforums.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/1/5985.html? I've never been to the race. Following info comes from the web site. http://www.jma-sangaku.or.jp/ The 2nd Japan Ski Mountaineering Campionship Race took place on April 16 Sunday. The race course was some changed by bad weather condition where it was a region between Tsugaike ski area and Tengu-ppara. There were the opening ceremony and course inspection on April 14 Saturday aftenoon. 27 men entried Full course, 11.4Km distance and 945m alt dif. 3 men and 2 women entried Half 7.6Km distance and 945m alt dif. 24men and 1 women finished the races. The men winner was Minehiro Yokohama with one hour 32min 12.4 sec. For the details, see; http://www.jma-sangaku.or.jp/jimu/docs/temp/jsmc2006result.pdf Comment: I had a chance to have short talk with Seiji Yamada during an Onagi-yama BC tour. He is a famous alpain/tele racer, and took the 2nd position on the race. He said this was fun but a specialized sport. Top racers wore "own invented" gears, and drove "own invented" techniques. Yamada-san is a really nice guy, and the owner of Yamada Ryokan, Otari village, Nagano. I am not sure if he can speak English well.
mattlucas 0
Quite a bit shorter course than was supposed to happen I really wanted to go in it But I would have had the heaviest setup for sure and was also very hungover from a good party the night before Didn't go to sleep till
SnowConnection 0
Yamada-san showed how the top racers skined on/off. It's too quick. Of course, they did not put off skis. It's like putting on/off ski covers during a step stop on walking.
mattlucas 0
I've read a bit about taking skins on and off like that. I'm not nearly flexible enough. Where does Yamada-san train? Is he just into racing or does he get into the BC as well? I see there were 8 Koreans Interesting Why can't you wear bike helmets?

mattlucas 0
I am on a whole very very very happy to be leaving Japan. I've had a great time here but I have other things to do I might be back but... I come from a winter country and there are way more mountains back home and many of them have never even been skied before. Once I find a ski-partner things will be looking good
