New name and changes at Ipponsugi in Yuzawa

Ipponsugi in Yuzawa is a small ski area close to Echigo Yuzawa Station in Niigata Prefecture.

There are a few changes for the 2023-2024 season:

New name: Ipponsugi Snow Park
Ski lift closed: the pair lift will not be operating
New snow escalator: instead, a covered snow escalator (magic carpet) will be used

Two ski lifts to operate at Suhara during the 2023-2024 season

Suhara in Uonuma City (Niigata Prefecture) has announced that their lower pair lift will not be operating during the 2023-2024 season. That means that there are effectively now two lifts operating at Suhara, a quad and a pair.

This lift closure does not affect available terrain at the ski area.

Number 7 lift at Marunuma Kogen to sit out the 2023-2024 season

The Number 7 single lift at Marunuma Kogen in Katashina (Gunma) will be closed during the upcoming season, along with the Gold Course and Gold connecting runs.

Nakasato Kiyotsu to remain closed for the 2023-2024 season

Nakasato Kiyotsu in Tokamachi (Niigata) will not be opening for the 2023-2024 season.

The ski area was closed last season, and will also be sitting out the 2023-2024 season.

Mt Granview in Minamiuonuma (Niigata) will unfortunately not be opening for the 2023-2024 season.

Montdeus Hidakuraiyama Snow Park has become Takayama Shimin ski area

Ski area renaming alert!

The ski area that was recently known as Montdeus Hidakuraiyama Snow Park has changed name to Takayama Shimin (which basically means that it is operated by Takayama City).

Only one lift operation at Nihonmatsu Shiozawa for the 2023-2024 season 

Nihonmatsu Shiozawa in Fukushima Prefecture has two pair lifts, but one lift will not be operating for the 2023-2024 winter season.

Fujisato Choei closed for the 2023-2024 season 

Fujisato Choei ski area in Akita Prefecture suffered some damage from heavy rains in July and will not be open during the 2023-2024 winter season.

Akasawa ski area in Gunma Prefecture has announced that the upcoming 2023-2024 season will be its last.

Niyama Kogen closed for the 2023-2024 season 

Niyama Kogen ski area in Hokkaido has announced that it will not be opening for the 2023-2024 season.

Makinoiro Kogen Snow Park becomes The Kijima Snow Park 

Not to be outdone by its neighbour Kijimadaira, which changed its name to the quirky Snow Resort Romance no Kamisama, Makinoiri Kogen Snow Park has suddenly announced its own rebranding.

The new name is The Kijima Snow Park.

Kunizakai Kogen Snow Park will be closed during the 2023-2024 season

Kunizakai Kogen Snow Park in Shiga Prefecture will not be opening for the 2023-2024 season.

The reason given is a lack of enough staff to open safely.

2023-2024 will be the last season for Mt Jeans Nasu ski area

In a surprise announcement today, it has been announced that Mt Jeans Nasu  in Tochigi Prefecture will be open for the 2023-2024 winter season... but it will be its last.

Sunday 10th March 2024 is scheduled to be the last day of operation for the ski area.

Imajo 365 to re-open for the 2023-2024 season

Imajo 365 in Fukui Prefecture has been closed for several years, but has confirmed that it will reopen this year.  Just the Number 1 pair lift is scheduled to be moving.

As of 17th December, details of lift ticket prices etc cannot be found. (No rush, guys!)

Inawashiro Resort to re-open in the future?

Inawashiro Resort in Fukushima Prefecture has been closed since 2019, and it was unclear if the closure would be permanent. 

But there is good news! A company is taking control of the resort (ski area and hotel), and a possible re-opening of the ski area is on the cards in the coming years.

2023-2024 will be the last season for St MARY ski area

It has been announced that the St MARY  ski area in Miyagi Prefecture will close at the end of the 2023-2024 season.

Reasons given for the decision to close are the 'decline in the number of skiers and the effects of warmer winters'.
