powhead 0
I've been browsing the other topics but I havent really seen anything on this topic for this region. Redirect me in case I missed something. With a serious lack of snow this year in general I'm determined to get my fill, even if it means boarding into the summer months. Myoko will be closed in early April and I'm on the search for resorts that are open later into spring. I heard there are even places that OPEN in spring but havent been able to find anything online yet. Does anyone have recommendations, suggestions or hints on where to look further? Im based in Niigata but am willing to travel anywhere in the region. Alas, Im sure Hokkaido is where the party goes in Spring but as much as Id like to, I just cant financially justify a trip out there I know will be too short to bare in the first place. Please tell me there's a local fix!
muikabochi 208
Hello I'm pretty sure some of Myoko is open into May. Take a look at the Now reports from previous seasons: http://www.snowjapan.com/japan-daily-snow-weather-reports/myoko-now Take a look at the resort pages on the site too that near the top give an idea of the planned season: http://www.snowjapan.com/japan-ski-resorts/niigata/myoko/akakura-kanko-resort Akakura Kanko plans to be open into May. For Niigata and a bit of Nagano, and this is just off the top of my head: Kagura - late May GALA Yuzawa - early May Okutadami Maruyama - early May Happo, Tsugaike, 47/Goryu - early May Nozawa Onsen - early May Parts of Shiga Kogen - late May
Tubby Beaver 209
Kagura is usually open to Golden week. In fact a lot of places are open in April and early May. Hokkaido, whilst further north has lower mountains so that levels the playing field a bit. Hakuba 47/Goryu are usually open pretty late as well IIRC. Gassan in Yamagata opens in June or July
Gunma Boarder 14
+1 for what Muikabochi and Tubby said. Might also add Ryuoo which plans to close in early May and has a 1930m max elevation. http://snowjapan.com/japan-ski-resorts/nagano/yamanouchi/ryuoo-ski-park I'll have to look into Gassan. The only place I know of that opens in spring is Senjojiki in the central alps in Nagano. planned season from Mid April to Late May. Has anyone been? I've been thinking about checking it out. http://snowjapan.com/japan-ski-resorts/nagano/komagane/senjojiki
snowdude 44
If your in Niigata Marunuma Kogen is doable too especially if you have a car. They are open until May for sure.

Mick Rich 78
Visiting 2 resorts beginning with G in 1 trip would be like crossing the proton streams in Ghostbusters - not advisable!!!
