DumbStick 13
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icsuzMtWCyY That's the one we're getting. Well, 3 actually. 1 white for the LDK and the other 2 are sleekily black. Edit: Actually, no it's not. We are on the Hitachi X Series.
Alexander L 80
Is Hitachi the best selling brand of air-cons or is it Panasonic?
DumbStick 13
Don't know. We liked the Hitachi ones and the fridge and washing machine are too. テーマ!
Alexander L 80
I find quiet mode very important when sleeping. All my air-cons have this.
DumbStick 13
Silly me, as I'm about to pay for new stuff I thought I'd check up on the prices. Very interesting. The aircons that we ordered are actually now considerably more expensive than they were back when this topic was made - that's on kakaku. I was quite surprised but double checked and seems to be the case. So very glad that I did this pre-summer. Something to remember perhaps.

DumbStick 13
Went to pay up at Ks today. Air conditioners indeed a fair bit more expensive. But keeping the price we agreed. Washing machine now cheaper and he happily took 15000 yen off the early summer agreed price. Cheers!
Tubby Beaver 209
washing machines in this country are super expensive.......100k and up for a front loader.....ridiculous price.
Metabo Oyaji 71
washing machines in this country are super expensive.......100k and up for a front loader.....ridiculous price. We got a front loader, and it wasn't quite that expensive. Don't remember exactly, but maybe 7-8 man-yen? (Of course, that was before Abenomics.) Maybe worth shopping around a bit more? Tubby Beaver 209
That'd be a bit more normal, but in most the shops I've been in (Bic, Yodabashi, Nojimi, Yamada) front loaders have been around 100k and up

NoFakie 45
If you've got kids or want them, try and buy a washing machine with a quick wash cycle. The school they go to may assume that its perfectly normal for everyone to wash and dry things ready for 7am the following morning, even when their kids have extra curricular stuff and don't come home till 7pm. NoFakie 45
howabout having 2 sets of uniform, 2 sets of sportswear. At elementary school, there is no uniform, so it's just sportswear. Usually, the swimming costume. Buying two as you say is perfectly sensible and I guess that's what some working couples must do. Compared to the West, Japanese parents have much less of a life to be honest. There is a lot of prepare this, take your kids here, come and watch your kids do this, "volunteer" to do this. Certainly in inaka anyway. With this prevailing culture, washing and drying a swimsuit for the next day just becomes another of those jobs you have to do because everyone else is doing them, your missus's mother must have had to do it and she didn't complain, etc., etc. I had to do pool duty a couple of times during the summer and without prompting from me, the first thing I heard another mother say was a complaint about having to book time off from work in advance for pool duty that will be cancelled if it rains on the day. Its clear that not everyone in 2013 thinks its the best way to do things.
