hellyer 216
I am aware of omiyage in Japan as regards family and friends gift giving after a trip etc. but I would like to present a gift to the lovely people (the Kitamura family) where we stay in Akakura Onsen. I am returning in a couple of weeks and am not sure whether they would appreciate a gift from my home country (Australia) or if I should grab something from an omyage shop at the airport. The latter presents something of a problem as we are usually in a tearing rush to catch the Nex and the Shink to make the last train to Myoko. If I did bring something from home what do you suggest might be appropriate?

Chriselle 158
Definitely something Australian....... me,,, I get "wood" from your wood. Myrtle, Red Gum, Coolibah, Jarrah, York gum, Mallee, Wandoo, and 3500 yr old Huon Pine........ If or whenever I do go to Aus, the first place I'm going to is the lumber yard. Something crafted from these gorgeous woods is going to be far too pricey for a casual gift but just wanted to say there's more to Aus than the typical koalas, kangaroos and so on..
