NoFakie 45
Lots of little quakes in Hakuba recently. Four or five since yesterday. I hope they're not a sign of a bigger one about to arrive.

hellyer 216
A question - Is 'Shindo' a magnitude scale like the Richter scale, and if so do the numbers correspond? e.g. 4.5 etc.
Tubby Beaver 209
no its not, its an intensity scale and the numbers don't correspond
muikabochi 208
Think of it like this snowjunky. Say there is a "magnitude 6" earthquake 100km from where you live one day. And then there is a "magnitude 6" earthquake directly under your house the next day. Both are magnitude 6. But you will sure feel the second one much much more than the first one. The first one might be a shindo 2. The second one might be a shindo 5 and be much scarier. So, the shindo scale is always much more meaningful for you sat in your room when it happens. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Meteorological_Agency_seismic_intensity_scale
