Yamakoshi, Niigata (4th May 2011)

Recommended Posts

I've posted pics from Yamakoshi before but it's such a lovely place. Went there yesterday and it was all looking very pretty. Was the first bull fight of the season as well and while we didn't go in (2000 yen seems a bit steep and we didn't have much time), we could see all the bull lining up outside the ring and it was quite an atmosphere.

Didn't have my camera with me as I wasn't expecting to go there, so just a few from the other halfs point and shoot.

Let's Yamakoshi. One of my favourite places nearby.

There used to be a road here:

Those houses in the ground once again:

The epicenter of the Chuetsu Earthquake in 2004 was pretty much centered on Yamakoshi. (Well, actually Kawaguchi nearby).

Here is the visit to the epicenter!

Anyway, it was really strong up there and a lot of landslides collapsed messing up with the water and flooding quite a few areas of that mountain village.
