pie-eater 207
Kids, be careful playinbg in the snow. And what was a machine out doing that anyway when people around? Quote: A five-year-old British boy has died after being buried alive by a snowplough at Spain’s most exclusive skiing resort. Federico Nicholls Lopez, from North London, died after spending 11 days in the intensive care unit at a hospital in Toulouse, France. He suffered a heart attack on February 25 after, it is thought, the snowplough moved a large amount of snow and accidentally buried him. The driver, who could face charges of manslaughter, said he had been clearing a path to a chairlift and had not noticed the child playing. Federico was engulfed in snow for at least a minute while his father, brother and resort staff tried desperately to dig him out. The boy was taken by helicopter from Baqueira Beret in the Aran Valley in the Pyrenees to hospital in Vielha. He was then transferred to the intensive care unit at Purpan Hospital in Toulouse. Yesterday hospital authorities said that Federico died on Tuesday after being in a coma for 11 days. A Spanish judge has opened an investigation into the death. Federico’s family and their close friends were too distraught to comment yesterday.
panhead_pete 27
I feel for all involved including the plough operator, living with that would be terrible.

TropicalPow 0
As a parent and a former groomer operator {long, long ago] very sad to hear this. Machinery and kids are never a good mix.
HelperElfMissy 42
Very very sad. Kids are so vulnerable, and they have such little sense of danger in their surroundings.
HelperElfMissy 42
Just saw report on the news about a 5yr old Olivier ? (british from what I could gather) buried by a snowplow pushed pile of snow also. He was fine after being treated for hypothermia at hospital. Didn't get the whole story - will listen out for a repeat next half hour.

panhead_pete 27
Common practice at Stabier Glacier on snow days, was a bummer coming around corners on pow days and seeing groomers 6 wide destroying the fun.
humper 0
Didn't know that. Would love to drive one of them. Must be quite hairy on a steepish slope.
