I don't know if this was in particular a UK thing, but in the 80's there was an 'uproar' over what were termed 'video nasties'. Basically films that would never get a showing in cinema but due to the explosion of home video they found an audience. Usually horror or gore flicks, including Evil Dead.

Seems there were about 75 of them in the UK that got 'banned'.

Well a bloke at work has apparently seem most of these, god knows why other than he's a bit strange, but he brought some into work and I took a gander at a few:

Love Camp 7 - just horrible, exploitation flick, no plot, extreme sadism

The Beast In Heat - sleazy film about Nazis conducting torture experients with highlights including pubic hair being torn out and eaten, a baby tossed in the air and machine-gunned, and guinea pigs masquerading as rats gnawing at a naked woman.

I turned down the chance to see more.

Bloody awful they were, I felt quite strange after watching. Who gets off on this?

Having said that, the gore of stuff like Saw is probably not much better.

Never seen one of those. Never will. But I reckon a good one would be Bum Fights. Doing real damage to each other but not deaths. So I am lead to believe. But still don't want to watch that crap.

I wonder GG if Evil Dead (pencil in the ankle doh) is the same as THE Evil Dead as mentioned above ... I think it was far sillier than the above nasties.

Not the kind of stuff I wanna watch.

The 3rd one in the Evil Dead series almost is a comedy.

And if I remember correctly, the 2nd one is actually a remake of the first.

Not that I'm an expert!!
