RobBright 35
Asked SJforums and he said he was ok with this. For those that can go weekdays, JR East has some special internet deals going - with shinkansen and lift pass 1 day returns from 5,800. Karuizawa Prince Hotel Gala Yuzawa Kagura/Tashiro/Mitsumata Ishiuchi Maruyama Gran Deco Resort The only catch being that the seats are unreserved on the shinkansens. A small price to pay. Metabo Oyaji 71
Those are insane bargains, for them in position to take advantage.

It's a 1-day deal, as you said.
RobBright 35
Fail to see how that is a catch.
RobBright 35
Just booked one to ishiuchi maruyama - fairly straight forward if you cn read Japanese. Also can choose any shinkansen you want, so went for the two "express" ones there/back. Next, shall be gran deco.
Tubby Beaver 209
I don't fancy taking the shink up there (Gran Deco)....you don't get on snow until mid morning. Are these only for weekdays?
Tubby Beaver 209
ah...never mind I just checked out the link
boardbaka 3
and what did it say TB ? weekdays only? I am pretty keen to go tomorrow
RobBright 35
weekedays only am afraid, plus the tickets are delivered to your house so may take time.
RobBright 35
Plus train to 郡山 station is only 1hr40mins. Almost the same as the "slow" shinkansen to echigo yuzawa.
skidaisuki 0
In my experience, unless you book ages ahead, reserved seats on the shinks with the best timing are rarely available anyway - at least at weekends. Getting jiu-seki seating is easy enough if you plan ahead and line up. Just wish I had some weekdays free...
Tubby Beaver 209
I've never had to take unreserved seats on a shink and sometimes I've booked the day before, rarely do I book these one day trips weeks in advance
tripler 0
but where does the train go from? Anywhere you want?
RobBright 35
From Tokyo to any station where those places are. And they are still doing the special 4 day shinkansen return ticket for 10k.

ongd 0
YES! This is the kind of 1 day trip deals that I've been looking for. I'll only be able to go on one "A day" and three "C days" in January and February because of school but I do have March 20th-28th free for some late season snowboarding I think I'm going to take a 6 day trip (20-25), return home to rest/recover for 2 days (26-27), and head back for a day trip if my body is feeling up to it. EDIT: Can somebody please provide me with some details about the 4 day 10k deal? My Japanese is horrible and I can't find any info about it.
RobBright 35
You can only buy at the ticket machines, think I posted some photos on here a while back of it? It's basically open-ended return within four days, ie leave on the 16th, return by the 20th, on any shinkansen. here it is: cheap shinkansen ticket
ongd 0
nice! i'm pretty sure all my ski/snowboard trips this season are going to be either 4 days or 1 day from now on (unless i find a better deal somewhere).
RobBright 35
Same here, got two x4 days in feb and one in march, the rest'll be 1 dayers; hopefully, driving in March.
