Biffo 0
Hi folks. Anyone been or heard about Gala Yuzawa of late. I'm wondering if it would be busy on a weekday and maybe how busy it would be weekends? Thanks
sanjo 2
I very much doubt there will be crowds there on a weekday. A quick look at the webcam now shows almost no-one there. Not sure about weekends, but I suspect more people head up to Kagura.
muikabochi 208
Agree with sanjo. Weekedays it will be very quiet.

muikabochi 208
Pretty much. Gala is not known for wide courses which is why it is really awful when it's busy. When it's empty (weekday) I like it.
HelperElfMissy 42
Yikes - that reminds me of some of the area's in Zermatt. Usually no problem when there is hardly anyone about, but not so easy to navigate when there are quite a few people to weave in and out of also! Although it doesn't seem that narrow all the way - just in that beginning bit.
muikabochi 208
I've never been to Zermatt but hearing Gala Yuzawa be compared to Zermatt just sounds really funny
thursday 1
I'm scouting a beginner resort near Tokyo for a complete beginner (wife's friend). Even though she's been on 5 ski holidays.
muikabochi 208
You have heard me say this before, but -> Iwappara. Do not consider Gala Yuzawa alongside Iwappara, the latter is much much better for complete beginners. (Bit of a disclaimer in case anyone wonders, I have absolutely no interest in anyone going to any resort either nearby or anywhere else in Japan, honest!!)
thursday 1
is there also some non-beginner stuff at Iwappara?
muikabochi 208
Yes the top bit.

HelperElfMissy 42
ha ha ha .... and Niseko is flat?! LOL Looks like the perfect place to take a beginner! Wish I could have taken my beginner girl friends there instead of Thredbo! Especially on a gorgeous clear day like that! We had blizzards for them, the poor things.
muikabochi 208
It IS the perfect place to take a beginner.
thursday 1
Cool. Sent her the sierra link so she can decide for herself.
SKI 15
That top course at Iwappara often has some huge moguls for the first 100m or so then they groom it making for a fast course going down.
