wasn't margarine invented because of the dairy scare, when anything dairy was supposed to clog up your arteries?

In part that is still true, but knowing that dairy contains both good and bad cholesterol, that scare has subsided and margarine should not exist anymore.

If the excuse is spreadability straight from the fridge, then there are plenty of spreadable butters out there. Some, even with olive oil.

Actually, margarine clogs up the liver.

Fat is necessary to lubricate the toxins in solid form for the body to expell. The problem is when it goes into your blood stream. Then the liver has to metabolize it. Beef fat including butter is hard for the body to metabolize compared tp vegetable fat, or pork, chicken fat.

The process of manufacturing margarine involves high temperature which makes it chemically so strong that the liver can't break it down, and reduces the livers function to filter out the toxins...more toxin in your system can cause all sorts of problems including mental illness. Butter is a good source of Vit D and it's yummy. Traditionally the Japaness source of Vit D is Miso paste. Miso paste on bread tastes a bit like Vegemite....

So spreadable butter with vegetable oil has health benefits as long as the source is GM free.
